When should I get my first village?

I think I'm level 3 right now and I've got about 12 militia in my party; 4 of them are musketman and 2 are pikemen. I've been doing random missions to hunt down this and that, killing some small brigand parties along the way and giving money to tough guys to survive. When or how should I progress and get my own settlement for the first time? Do I have to swear allegiance to a Faction, train loads of militia, fight in a war and then get rewarded with one? Can't I just seize one?

the only way to get land is to either take the fortress (or town) near the village or to become a noble under a king and have him grant you 1 village.

Unless you have about 150 renown the king wont make you a noble and with your small force you cannot take a castle. You should just keep trading till you either reach 150 renown on accident or have enough money to finance an assault

thats usually the best way to start. Youll get renown as fools try and raid your caravans and careful caravaneering will net you plenty of money.

No.

In Warband, just grind tournaments and there are no caravans, so trade the hard way.

I've got 40 renown and i've aligned to the Muscovites and become a mercenary captain. if i siege a castle and take it, does it become under my control or under muscovite control?

Muscovite, and you can't ask it to be given to you.

I'm a lord of Sweden atm, and I have never seen "whom do you think should receive the fief of .. .. .."
I guess it probably could be because of that Sweden is an Absolute Monarchy or is it like that
with every faction? Cossacks for example weren't an absolute monarchy, which would mean that
other lords can have a word on things.

I remember somebody mentioning they captured a fortress as a rebel. if I didn't align then could it have been my own independent fortress?

Becoming a mercenary captain can bug and permanently prevent you from becoming a lord.


Eventually, once you get over 200 renown, the leaders of the various faction will send you a request to become a lord along with a fief.

Well, if you can capture a fortress on your own without being a lord of some nation or merc captain, then the fortress/city is yours! You will keep it and your nation will be called '(whatever nation which the fortress belonged to) Rebels' you can have your own banner but not change the name of your 'nation' or whatever to call it.

And about marc captains and such... If you get enlisted you can easier get some good relations with the lords of the nations... You can go from merc captain to easily lord! When you become lord the king will award you with a ****ty village.

I never experienced that bug you are talking about. (not saying that it's not true)
