I'm playing a character and I'm 100 days into the game, and I just noticed that I haven't completed the river pirate quest! So, I was wondering, when do people finish this "first quest" of the game?

I actually went through and finished it just to see what would happen. Unfortunately, the guy just says he's done paying you and that's that. At first I thought the quest was a really good idea for newbies to start with, but then I found out it was taking forever to complete, and finally that it doesn't lead into anything more. Maybe someday this quest will be a quick little intro to fighting and navigation, and will follow up with another quest sending you out into the world to other towns.

I always try to finish it as fast as possible. The pay is good for the beginning and the fights afford you some 'easy' upgrades, and you are pretty secure near Zendar.

In the beginning, pirates are all I can kill, so I usually finish it by about day 3

I usually get about half way through, until I'm strong enough to take on bandits after which I don't touch them again - unless I have peasants to upgrade. You get stuff all money, items and experience from fighting pirates.

It's nice to see those poor creatures at the beginning; they are walking 20 denars! I sell them to Ramun and get new weapons.

BUT transforming human beings into war tools is not so humanistic. To avoid suffering from such compunction, I hunt them all in at most 15 days or so for my mental and emotional healt.

in my latest game, I hunted them all down, then installed the area mod. Continued with that game and found I could start the mission (as well as the training) all over again!

Normally do it within the first several days, although I find it boring after the 20th time of fighting them, knowing there is still five more fights to go.

I just started last night and got this quest (like everyone who starts no doubt! )

But I haven't managed to get away from the tournament yet.
I just keep on going in and betting on myself and having such a ball !

I think I really need to get out of the town. hehe

Now I go after them ASAP, well under 25 days. First game, I never noticed I hadn't finished until well after 100 days in

In the older versions I got the quest just for the free shield, killed a few pirates just out of spite, and then proceeded to do something more useful.

Nowadays I do the RP quest actually quite fast. Since slave trade is probably the best way of income that early in the game in the later versions, I don't actually fight anyone else until the quest is done, unless some bandit group ends up wandering near Zendar.
