What's your favorite polearm?

I've been experimenting with using a spear as a primary weapon both on and off horseback.  On the horse it's used to skewer things.  Off the horse it's great for whopping people over the head at a distance.

I have a feeling that the spear (balanced spear to be exact) isn't the best thing out there by far.  What should I be using?  Something that's effective for couched damage and for poking people in the eye.

It would be the Lance wich you get after 50 Relation with Swads. If i remember correctly it has 50 or maybe 60 dmg

Can you use it effectively off the horse as well?

He's talking about the Knight Lance. And I wouldn't recommend it.
If you want a polearm on foot you should go for the real long things*, which can't be used on horseback though. They are nice for sieges, too.
Hm or what about a Balanced Halberd**?
But personally I prefer the brawl at short range

*the Pike has some 245 in reach IIRC
** or whatever they're spelled
Edit: I was told they're great in sieges, never tried it, though. Thought it might be wise to add that.

I don't use polearms at all apart from tournaments, where I agree they are pretty nifty. But in battle? All that wheeling and couching? I concur with Wellenbrecher

The polearm you get off of graveth has over 180 reach, and it is useable like a quarter staff, ultimate halberd ever!!!

Are you're talking about loot or the gift for nice little vassals? Have to fight for or against him yet.

you have to kill him, i modified my loot from 10 to 2 and was able to loot it after 15 tries

Stop those smileys please. It's annoying and adds nothing to your post.

I don't want to discourage you, but Graveth doens't even cary a lance at all*. He's supposed to drop a blade.
Those nice Knight Lances can be much easier looted from Swadian units. Nobles of course.

*as the TroopEditor tells me

Edit: the Ancient Council Blade is a fricking halberd?

good sir it merely pushes my point across, too many items spawn when u have 10 and thus the halberd is pushed off the list as it isnt worth as much as a masterwork long sword ... hence the

Still one would be sufficient.

And you said in another thread:

just kill him endlessly with 2 looting (or less) until he gives u the ancient council blade, its a halberd
I always thought the blade was a.. you know, sword.

me too, i was like, OMG A HALBERD!?!?!?!?!?!????!? GIMMEH MAH SAWRD!!!

Agh! It's a halberd? There go my plans of vassalage
it works like an uber lance, got same range as knight lance i think, plus it is the BEST polearm on ground

Knight Lance is what you should be using if you're a Knight. Great reach and huge damage.

ACB is for foot/horseback combat. Doesn't have the reach of a Knight Lance, so it doesn't strike first if on horseback, but it does have huge damage and the capacity to slash.

Pikes are for foot combat. Brace it in the enemy cavalry's general direction, bam. Then you can stab them from 2 meters away.

thanks for clearing that up merc.

I didnt know the main diff, cept pikes brace, spears stab, lances couch, and bruthah, ancient council blade hurts people.

Ah drat.  I'm a Knight who fights on horse mostly and on foot some.  Damn me and my need to over diversify!

I think the ACB is right up my ally.  As much as I'm not a fan of GnR, I like the capacity to slash.  I'm also planning on rocking an axe.

Good god!  How many of my childhood metal band fetishes are actually based on medieval terms?!
