What's the point of having right to rule when you are a vassal?

I was hoping you could at one point challenge the king/khan/sultan.
I'm aspiring to become King of Nords, but haven't come that far yet

At least you HAVE right to rule.

My game is currently at day 140, king of my own faction, married to daughter of one of most powerful men in swadia, (he has highest renown at 1040, and is current marshall and has about 6 other family memebers)
I'm friends with about 7 different lords and with several more right on the brink, and yet when i check my character reports screen, there is NO right to rule rating whatsoever, just shows my renown-600+, honor-20+
all my friends and my one enemy and that's it.

Anyone know what's going wrong with my game and how i can get it to show up or am i pretty much screwed?

You gain right to rule by sending your companions to those quests.

go to any of your heroes in party and talk to them.
Click on asking them something
tell them you aspire to be king one day
they'll suggest they'll embark on a journey to god-knows-who for a month or so and return with support, you say "yeah whatever", they disappear, come back after a month or so and you gain +3 to R2R.

That's it in a nutshell.

I know how to gain R2R, but the problem is that there is NO right to rule rating in my current game, it not that it's 0, but that it's not there AT ALL!!

In my other game that i played and cancelled previously, i was only 53 days in and as soon as i married my a nice valkarie broad, my raight to rule rating showed up instantly in my reports screen.  It was 0 but it was still there.  In this game, i haven't seen a r2r rating of any kind since day 1.

Well that's strange...
Are you clicking "reports" and then "Character report"?

Just for the record, you can also gain right to rule by having enemy lords or their troops in your party as prisoners and keeping them there until peace breaks out.

For example, if you're at war with the Swadians (as many of us tend to be @_@) and you have a bunch of Swadian Men at Arms and a couple of Swadian Lords in your party as prisoners, if peace breaks out while they're in your party, they'll be released but you'll also gain Right to Rule.

Just view the screenshot below and you'll see what i mean, you'll see the name of my kingdom, followed by renown, honor, freinds and enemies and that's it

that was my first save, i reloaded old and conquered again and named it properly, but ya, i'm bad for doing that cuz i never check back before i hit enter

I'm positive that it's supposed to be like that until you gain at least one point of Right to Rule. I also had nothing on my character report until I sent out a companion and as soon as she came back I had "Right to Rule: 3" on my screen.

Anyone know why holding prisoners until peace would give Right to Rule? How does that get you legitimacy?
It's probably supposed to be treated like they are prisoners of war, released once the war is over. But the fact that those prisoners are apparently auto-released diminished that. A popup at least asking if you wish to release war prisoners would be nice.
