the brother, usually in my playthroughs always named Nogand or Niasen, has a bunch of skills but what's he "best" for??

i tried putting him as horse archer once and he just kept dying lmao, later i checked he doesnt evne have the Sagitarius riding skill for mounted archers LOL

like, he's kind of potato i've noticed, so what's the most optimal thing for him? lance on a horse, or heck just leave him as a basic clubman lmao?

Fighting companion, party leader, governor, basically anything since he has some very good skills.

Current death rate in battle is set too high on purpose by the devs for testing (easier to find and fix bugs if heroes are dying more)

It's set at 10% now and they said will be lowered to around 2% later on so it will be more viable to keep your fighting companions alive and their deaths won't be a common occurrence (so more meaningful when/if it happens)

If you do the tutorial, you can select his perks and build him however you like (governor/captain/ party leader)

^This. He can be a great governor and captain if you pick his perks. Also you can marry him to a lady to get another governor and equipment kit.

I think letting all npcs that join out clan have their perks reset would greatly improve the companion/family situation.

He's the exact opposite of a potato. He's one of the best elements of your clan. If you want him to be. As per all of the above:

  • He's a strong field commander who is good to run his own party.
  • He is a great governor, especially of cities of the same culture.
  • His wife will save you 100k + in gear purchases - if you pick strategically.
But additionally to what others have said:
  • Park him in a city with his wife and you'll have a never ending supply of children for your family that just keeps on going as long as you need it. I'm 400 days into a current campaign and he already has a bunch of kids. Most of which are male, which means I can use them to gain unbuyable gear through marriage in the future.

that's good, because companions hella useless in battles now

You just convinced me to do the tutorial again at my next play through.

Though, yes, this would work as well:

Do the initial tutorial quest.

You get to choose your brother's perks then, but if you skip it they'll be automatically chosen. I'm not sure if it's random.

Anyway, I usually set him up to either be a horse-archer or a good, initial war-time governor. I used to use him as a caravan-leader, but I'm not sure if that's been fixed yet. A couple versions ago some changes were made, and we lost that and the ability to interact with his inventory -- we've since gotten the inventory back, and the ability to appoint him as governor, but I don't think he's an option for caravans again yet.

How does Nissan having a wife, save you thousands of denars in equipment purchases?

Why would you lock that behind the tutorial. This shouldn't be locked at all or at most be the other way around.
1.0 but actually still in EarlyAccess.
