There is so much you could do to improve the game but it’s far too much to be done until September.  Said so this a discussion thread not actually suggestions.

I personally would have loved to see these added:

Diplomacy

Ability to arrange battles with the enemy
Ability to discuss settlements before battle for the winner/loser ( Money, Freedom, Surrender of fiefs, return of captured lords)
Ability to improve relations with other factions
Trade agreements with friendly factions (that boots income).
Means of communicating with other lords from distance (messengers).

AI

Enemy infantry/ ranged troops look for nearby high ground if outnumbered
Enemy infantry/ ranged troops look for nearby high ground if facing mostly cavalry
Faster response from individual units.
Ability to focus on the mass volume of enemy troops (instead of all attacking the l loner guy)

Sieges

Battering rams
Hot oil
Flame arrows
Ability to resolve sieges through normal battle (if defender chooses to)
Efficient movement of troops on ladders/walls
Better (higher and balanced) allocation of troops in stages 2 and 3 of siege.
Cattle obtained from town raids

Objects in the battle areas

Ruined small walls and building
Fences, farming areas and the rare isolated house
Roads perhaps with the odd sign
Cattle and perhaps shy wild life (I so want to spear a cow)
Snowy rocks that don’t look like cupcakes with icing

Fiefs

More buildings to construct with deeper and rewarding effects to fiefs

Sounds

Way more stuff needed Towns are dull and battles silent.
Long periods without music (not that they are very pleasing anyway)

Factions

More differentiation between factions especially since armies are mostly low tier units and they all look very similar.
Each faction should show their own culture obtained perhaps from different music, clothes and town environments.

Quests

Linear sequence of quests, starting a war shouldn’t be a single quest.

Example: You could accept a main quest called “Declaration of  War” followed by a set of quests:

The honourable way

1 Gather the majority of other lords support. (good relationship with lords required)
2 Successfully expose your case to Marshall/king ( same as above )
3 Reinforce garrisons of border settlements
4 Reinforce your faction Armies.
5 Travel to enemy Marshal/king deliver declaration of War

        The Fun way

1 Reinforce Armies of the lords keen on war
2 Disrupt your trade with other faction
3 Disrupt trade of other faction with you
4 Assassinate the other faction representative on your town
5 Assassinate your own faction representative on enemy Territory (muwahaha)
6 Lay back and enjoy your king declaring war

Same could be done with a ceasefire you could either bribe lords and assassinate war supporters or perhaps improve relationships through services, trade,  return of fiefs and other diplomatic options.

So how do you think these fair? what will you trully miss on M&B ?

Just would like to point out that you already get cattle after village raids. Just look nearby, there should be a cow nearby, go to it and do what you will.

Innuendo intentional?

Some good ideas there. Mostly, if they haven't fixed it by release, I'm going to miss a decent audio system (including more ambient stuff, they've started with barking dogs and such in towns) with decent music. It can add so much to a game but I have a feeling it will be overlooked. I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks bladeofudun was actually unsure regarding that one, you see Rhodoks dont raid and pillage thats for nords and other barbarian like

I agree with you Gerec audio is by far the negative part of M&B.

Why is there so many of these threads whining about what wont be in the final version? A game obvioulsy cant have everything, why not be happy with what you have?

No, but there are certain standards that should be upheld. No part of a game should be unfinished. Sieges are broken and need to either be fixed or taken out (which I would probably be fine with) for the final version, for example. It's just game design, if it doesn't work or it doesn't work well, it probably shouldnt be there or should be fixed if possible. Too many developers/producers and too many consumers are okay with games releasing half finished, though I'm largely speaking about MMOs for that.

Nobody whined, well up till a moment ago i guess

Truth be said i agree with you why would one discuss about MB features in a sub-forum called Mount&Blade Discussion?

Completely off-topic here, but with an MMO that's fine because of the way they work. Players must invest lots of time in to an MMO to meet with any form of success, and it takes a long time to reach the end-game areas. So if a developer releases an MMO with the really important stuff, like a fleshed out levelling system, a working & entertaining quest system, decent eye-candy and audio, then they can work on later parts of the game, like a dungeon that requires a large group of players to complete it, while all the players are getting through the beginning of the game. Nobody will be zooming through the beginning of an MMO in an hour until the game has been out for a while and there have been guides or such written about how to do it most effectively.

On topic now, I'd say the battle scenes are pretty barren, and the reason being is that it would probably be difficult to arrange complex and organized structures or whatnot on a randomly generated plot of terrain that could be very hilly or heavily forested, etc. So I'd miss having a 'better' battle scene generator and a prettier place to lay waste to my enemies.

Thats true about MMO's, but it only applies to linear games. In a sandboxy game (comparable to Mount and Blade) most everything needs to be finished because the player is supposed to be given the option to do whatever they want, so everything needs to work. In a linear game where you can't enter dungeon x until you've killed y amount of mobs, thats true though. Sorry to derail, Mama :p

To get back on topic, perhaps there could be two seperate terrain generators, where one does hills/forest etc and one kicks in when a flat or mostly flat plain is recognized, and then sprinkles a few buildings or objects around? Just a thought.

hmmm i thought the terrain already was pre-generated and worked on a similar system, i have certainly played in the same terrain more than once.

it used to be randomised but im not sure now

in addition to the op one thing that would be good is that you could see the improvements that you spent thousands of denars building in your feifs.

a way i get round the deafness of the battles is turn the music off and have some of my own music playing in the background. folk and power metal fits well

Why yes, I am bitter about being at my job right now, thanks for asking.

Cheers.

It's kind of irrelevant to want more features when modders can add them about as good as anyone. And better the game stop being updated at 1.0, so their mods aren't ruined.

Disagree.  It isn't the job of the fans of the game to do things for free in order to make the game as good as possible when the game's designers should have done so in the first place.

If Mount & Blade, upon retail release, is completely finished, polished, bug-free, has all the features working properly and correctly included, and doesn't need to ever be patched beyond 1.00... I will be amazed.

Cheers.

I'm expecting the fief system to be upgraded by 1.0, I will be disappointed if it isn't (though it's not game breaking). It really is pretty useless at this point. None of the upgrades are really valuable after they're complete, and even if they were they're too expensive and require too much time to complete to be worth it.
