What we want to see about the strengthening of the spear?

I hope Talesworlds can see the content of these two videos, which are unreasonable.:evil:
Its gonna be more unreasonable if you gonna buff them can tell you that :smile: However i liked the idea that you could do an small attack move when shielded but should do like 50% lesser damage then

And AI! Soldiers who use spear or pike should know how to cooperate. This is an important factor in the effectiveness of this kind of weapon. In fact, AI needs to be improved in all troops, such as the stupid cavalry. It's a long-term work and needs constant improvement.
 
Not trolling. It's an objective, consistent, and neutral test of the AI's ability to perform with spears. It's a much fairer test of game balance than the subjective opinions and videos of individual players

In any case, to some extent it reflects that the spear should be improved

not really since i see it being effective on the battlefield daily even if AI can be little bit dumb at times so can i as a player. But sure AI could be improved but then people also gonna ***** a lot about loosing horses ^^

it's gotten worse now that the enemy AI knows how to close in instead of standing back, if your units in close formations they just constantly bounce their spears on each other, an easy solution would be making the attacks clip through friendly troops, but I fear that would be unhealthy to gameplay

anyways, I also have a spear/pike fetish and I am sad that these weapons are currently on their lowest point, mainly because of multiplayer combat issues unrelated to singleplayer
 
Dont get me wrong im all in for better spear walls and strategical upgrades and improving AI (ive been pushing for this in the past to). More and better movement as well as mentioned.
Buffing the spears however i see a problem with since they are gonna be to powerful in the bigger scheme of things
 
I don't care about spears in the hands of the player, so much as I care about them in the hands of my troops. Al those tricks and techniques we understand? The AI don't. They just suck and struggle to put up a proper fight.
 
I've been using spear on foot and on horse for the last couple of characters and they are effective if you know how to use them. But they suffer from some serious issues.
  • Glancing blows do little to no damage even on unarmored/lightly armored opponents.
  • It's difficult to get even close to maximum damage out of them because you have to have momentum and you have to be a full or nearly full extension in the animation.
  • Most decent size 1 handed spears are much slower than even an axe or a mace so blocking them is much easier.
  • You need about 2-3 meters between you and your opponent to get any real damage at all and since most opponents use an axe or sword it's very difficult to maintain that distance because they want to close the gap ie they bum rush you.
  • To hit an opponent using a shield you have to take chances and hit them just before you think their about to start a swing animation or hope you can dodge it and hit as they recover and that requires precise timing.
  • Using them on horse is very strange because against a mounted opponent you actually need to aim at the waist and vs an opponent on foot you have to aim at the knees to waist. It's like the hit boxes are off when riding.
It has a very high skill ceiling which I'm ok with but the damage of using one vs the difficulty of using one is horrible which is why most people dislike them so much. I've tried a few mods that change spears but the problem is they go too far and make using a spear a must. It should be an option not a requirement.
These are all very true, and it's especially annoying against shielded opponents. The high skill ceiling can make it a fun weapon to use, though I agree about the damage trade-off. While it can be a good weapon once you're skilled with it, the fact is that you'll be so much more effective just taking a blade instead. The AI, especially after seeing some of these videos, need to be fixed to use the spear more effectively as it seems they're really just used to stop cavalry and nothing else.

Maybe make the multiplier for getting a stab to the face (if it even exists atm) even higher to reward the high skill ceiling, whilst not just flat-out making it OP.

Well glancing blows need to do more damage atm it's maybe 5 or so damage against lightly armored targets and nothing against heavily armored. It should be very low against moderate to heavily armored targets but against lightly armored it should be 1/5 - 1/6 of what the max damage is. Second make it so you don't need to be at full extension to get good damage. Third give us that perk effect that when you hit someone with a spear you get a pushback (keep at bay). This effect alone would make using spears much easier. It doesn't even have to proc all the time maybe just 30% of the time.
 
The cost of the spear is low and easy to use. I hope that the recruits generally use spears, like the Valandia and Aserai recruits. Is there more to add?

Spears need to be made faster.

That way they do more damage when they do connect and are more accurate.

Historically spears were better than swords. More often than note the spear came out ahead.



Swords were used more as a side arm than anything else.

Yes. The ai needs improvement in all aspects of combat for all troops 100%. +1 The cavalry ai is especially ineffective.


Spears need to be more realistic. I don't care how overpowered that makes them. They should deal damage if I am poking someone with the sharp end of a stick, even if they are standing right next to me, I can still apply pressure to the spear and sink the sharp end into the flesh of an opponent. Currently spears do no damage at close distances which is really unrealistic and is only designed this way so as to not make spears too strong in the game. They wouldn't be that crazy and would actually be as commonly used as spears were in real life for battles. Please make spears do damage regardless of momentum and regardless of distance.

agreed in all, the only momentum that should really affect spear damage is the enemy speed going against the spear point to add even more damage to it, that way horses would be really ****ed up if they made a frontal assault against a line of spearmen unless they were heavily armored to survive first contact and break the spearwall (or flanked/attacked from the rear when the infantry was occupied fighting other infantry as was done in RL)
