so what equipments and skills do you find usefull for the little bugger? or Borcha for that matter...

i personally dont give him a horse. i did that before but he just got the poor beast hurt in so many ways it amazed me. instead.. i give him the best crossbow i can find.. he's currently at level 20 and one of my best units. he sometimes gets more kills then my 10 swadian knights together.
all that with crossbow. ofcourse i give him a shield and a sabre to defend himself if things get sticky, and he seems to do pretty well with those too.
when it comes to skills i usually give him skills that are good for the party.

what about you? what do you find most efficient way of using this fella?

Arrowfodder

I currently have both of them on horseback, but as you say they're pretty useless when confronted with more than 3 enemies. I've read they stink with lances too, which is a bit odd since upgraded town guards (caravan masters?) do fairly well with this weapon.

I might try the crossbow approach - sharpshooters are my favorite anonymous troop type anyway

I give them horses armor and javelins. They tie the enemy pretty well with those. Also I only give them party skills.

Other ideas "Who says Marnid and Borcha are useless?!" : http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=1113&highlight=marnid+useless

Summarizing many posts: Give them Party Skills that affect the entire party like Surgery or Pathfinding, etc. As you've already mentioned yourself.

I give them reinforced Plate Armor, Heavy Chargers, and Greatswords. I give them both party skills and decent combat skills. They usually kill 4-9 enemies each per conflict, and rarely get knocked unconscious.

When I first had Marnid, I thought he sucked. Every battle he'd go off and die - so I stuck him at the bottom of the stack. But as soon as I gave him good equipment, he became a decent warrior. Borcha I gave good equipment to from the outset, with similar results.

The weapons matter a lot.

If you just give them 2Hers, then they do quite well. Give them missile weapons on horseback and then they get really suicidal.

Armor helps too as they are usually good at offense but suck at defense. It's hard to screw up defense with really good armor.

For Borcha and Marnid :-

Reinforced Great Helm
Reinforced Mail Hauberk
Hardened Leather Boots
Balanced Great Sword
Nomad Bow with Bodkin Arrows

Borcha riding a Spirited Charger and Marnid a Spirited Courser.

They make fine archers (archery currently about 180) and decent melee fighters (2H about 150) and they are only Level 22 and 20 respectively so there's plenty of room for improvement.
