What they are based on: The people and names

正在查看此主题的用户

Hi everyone. I've been thinking what real-life names are the names of Calradian people based on, if any. In a way, this is an extension of the 'what historical nations are the factions based on'-threads that are abundant in this forum.  :grin:

So, here's a few for starters:

Yaroglek <-> Yaroslav
Alixenus <-> Alexander
Jeremus <-> Jeremy

And one not-so-obvious

Falsevor <-> Percival
You see, in Grimm's law, where hard voices become soft, P becomes F, K becomes H etc.  And then, in languages like Japanese :roll:, R and L are 'the same'.
You know, engrish.
Parsevol, Felcivar...

Yes, I know it's a silly thread. :razz:

Riiiiiight . . . .but there would have to be some kind of relation between the name in game and the names that they are "based on" beyond just sounding somewhat similar to get any credence.  Otherwise, I could just do something like this:

Haringoth <-> Hair in Goth
Borcha <-> Brandon
Rolf <-> Rolf

I think the names are based on random button pressing :razz:

Although Grunwalder castle's name has a wicked story behind it.

Yeah:
Grunwalder's Tribute 说:
In my father's day the Swadians would come calling, thinking to make us knuckle our foreheads and call them their overlords. But Grunwalder, an old veteran of the wars from the hills, showed us how to form a battleline with spear and crossbow that could break a Swadian charge. He fell in battle, but the people gave his name to the castle that was built here, where he fell, so that we would remember, and always stand firm against the horsemens' onslaught.

Well I don't have much in the way of names here, but I'm guessing that Katrin <-> Catherine or even possibly Katelyn. Or maybe just Katrin itself
and the Grunwalder thing, I have to agree on, is awesome!

Wow who tells that one? Very nice story, wish there was more like that.

Well, just watched document about vikings and there was some big boss named Ivar Ragnarsson. Guy invaded York I think... So, that's Ragnar probably...

Bunduk, and if you didn't know, the story is based on deceased forum veteran Grunwalder.

And it's one of the coolest castles in game.

Err.. names. It's hard to compare most with real life names, but I almost always subconsciously compare "Rafard" with "Lafaard" which is Dutch for "coward." :razz: Ofcourse, that's not just, he's as courageous as the next Calradian.

I thought Grunwalder didn't die. Didn't they figure out he was actually posting from the US instead of Poland? I remember he was a hoax.

What are you talking about, it is the coolest castle in the game. I mean seriously, it looks badass.

The actual RL Grunwalder is an awesome story. In-game... meh. So this guy taught Rhodoks to stand close together, hold big chunks of wood in front of them, and stab with pointy sticks. Yawn.

The grunwalder argument was one of the biggest flame wars ive witnessed in this forum. I might just have to go and recruit brunduk just to hear the story.

Actually, I'd find the in-game Grunwalder more interesting (if he was real that is).
