It's nice when you get home, and your hands are cold, because it's suddenly turned ****ing freezing and miserable outside, but you've had your winter jacket on so only your hands are frozen, and then you wash them with lukewarm water, because the boiler tends to be a piece of crap, and the lukewarm water feels so nice and warm upon your chilly hands.

Gotta appreciate the little things.

So, he would, as a result, get a 25% pay bump out of his time increase, and the one he gets with the pay raise?

No, him getting salary means he no longer gets paid hourly and instead gets a set amount every paycheck. That's the only real drawback to salary at a place like that, for instance I usually make more money by the hour than my managers do because they always end up having to work past their 40 a week. At hourly pay if you work more than 40hrs a week you get overtime, some places will give you overtime on salary too but it's not uncommon for a fast food place to just forbid OT and ask managers to work off the clock once they hit their 40.
