Largest army I soloed? Not sure but somwhere about 240.

I am thinking of starting a character, a legendary knight hero who can solo lord parties alone.
I think it would be easy with any decent knight or cataphract archer setup. The challenge is the enemy archers or crossbowmen.
So here is what I plan to do.
- Kill the cavalry.
- Kill any infantry that stray far from archers.
- wait for archers to run out of ammo
- victory
As long as I don't mind boredom (waiting 1-2 minutes for enemy to run out of ammo) I think it is a reliable way to solo anything.

Why not? If he will have heavy Charger, around 6 in riding, huscarl/heavy triangle shield then he will be well protected.
With Balanced great lance you can kill calvary and infantry trying to strike but this may be too slow in battle.
Long awpike is very strong so if you will train a little then you can kill many enemies very fast, no matter who they are.

Depends on the army. A 50-70ish Nord army should not be impossible, at basic they are like tougher sea raiders.
Swadian or Vaegir or Sarranids depend on number of knights/mamelukes.
Ironically it is the khergits it would be toughest. Way too many fast horsemen that can catch up and suffocate you.

First problem from Khergits is they cancel out the advantage of being a mounted character. They got horses too and it is too easy to get surrounded and mobbed.
The danger from horse archers is them killing your horse. Shield may save you but horse can still be shot. With a pack of VHAs even a charger can go down.
Plus the lancers that come out of nowhere and with 7 riding skill + coursers are difficult to shake off in pursuit.

If you have good riding, then no cav is dangerous until map generator was an *******.
Khergits can't really do much damage if they hit heavy charger, its more likely that they will run out of ammo.
To easily lose pursuit of fast horsemen just slow down your horse then turn left/right then speed up and go on the opposite.
Most likely cav will go wrong way or will lose too much speed.

I never exactly soloed big parties, because by the time I could do that I already had some companions with me. Sometimes they were totally useless, but still, it wasn't soloing. I genuinely do not remember what was the biggest party I ever strictly soloed.kittehs 说:
About lord parties - it would be difficult. Judging by my experience when I tried to finish a round alone against plenty of enemies, pretty close to impossible for me. Huge bandit parties are definitely doable. With a pack full of arrows soloing a hundred should be doable (I practically soloed similarly sized parties). Lord parties? I don't think I could do that, but definitely there are better players out there.
(As a sidenote - in With Fire and Sword it's definitely doable. Finishing a round there was not particularly difficult. Bows are much more of a threat than guns, because you can kill gunners while they reload, and they run out of ammo faster.)

I always avoided large parties because the battles would be too long. So I guess the most I've solo'd would be 'round 30 Sea Raiders. I usually solo until I have the cash/training capabilities to raise a good army.

60 man Vaegir lord party. Just circle them with a bow. My power gaming play through I have good horse archer stats. 1 bow and 3 large quivers. Circle them untill they are all picked off. It's not a reliable thing though, if I don't dodge well enough or if I get walled up I'm doomed. Also, look out for trees.

Above some battle sizer this thing becomes next to impossible on Diplomacy. In order to avoid being hit you must ride at right angle to arrows being shot at you, but at higher battle sizes archers tend to spread around the map, and fairly soon your horse has several shafts sticking out of its rump, by which moment you are doomed.
On Native it's more doable, because your mount will not slow down while being shot.
In WFaS horses do not slow down, enemies mostly have no shields and bows are quite rare. There soloing is absolutely doable up to quite huge parties. You just need a baggage full of arrows and switch horses often. Warband is a different beast, though.
