What is the best way to recruit Northmathr Vikingrs?

I am wondering what the best way to recruit Northmathr Vikingrs is, because they are one of the best troops in the game and I only find small parties of them every now and then on the map even with cheats and then CTRL+T to show all parties, most of them are at sea and I can't recruit them.

I also want the Danish Vikingrs, but it won't let me recruit them for some reason, I don't get the dialog option for that, the same goes for Sweidsh Vikingrs.

You can find it using the search function. Choose "this board" so you will only see stuff from VC.

There is an area with several roaming parties of them where you can quickly fill up your army. Look for the Warriors Refuge East of Adrian's Wall.

From my experience your party needs to be stronger than theirs or the option to hire them will not even be available. After that your renown and Persuasion skill affect the % they say yes.

Does anyone know why they sometimes join me for free? In about 70% of the cases i have to pay them though.

I really hope they don't remove this option from the game completely,  especially for characters that want to play bandit kings. That said I really wish there was a way to recruit danish vikingr, those black shields are pretty cool and works well for a bandit king theme. I could see making them harder to get maybe require the ruthless trait + 500 renown, but not remove them altogether.

you can recruit them all, just need to meet certain reqs.

Do you know off hand what is needed to recruit the danish vikingr, I tried everything with my level 22 character who had the ruthless trait and over 1200 renown. I tried everything and no dice, probably tried over 50 times which leads me to believe they are not flagged for recruitment since the dialog never is available for them to join you.

I can also attest to this --- I can readily recruit Norweigans but never get the option for the Danish.  I haven't tried the Swedish yet

Parties like the Danish, Vikingrs, Norhmathr generally tend to spawn around these random "camps" in my current play there's a fighter's camp right next to the coast northeast of Englaland.

These camps don't show up until you get close to them so not sure if ctrl-t works for this.

Yes it would be nice or slip in a fix for the Danish Vikingr in 1.03.

it's random, but you need highish renown and low honor just to start. Strange noone ever got them.

Something is broken for sure with the Danish Vikingr, just tried again with a test character -150 rep and 2000 renown.

1. I believe you need 2500 gold
2. You need space for their whole party to join you
3. You need space for their prisoners to join you
4. Low rep helps
5. High reknown helps
6. If they say no, click leave and just reopen the dialogue once more

Yes, ctrl-t  will not work for bandit hideouts. though it does let you see where the bandits are and you can get an idea of the general area where it will be. They spawn from these camps and return to them. So, if you find one you can stake it out and kill or recruit all the Vikings you want.

I think there are several Danish Viking Camps, but one can be found on the coast of England North of Dunwic, usually about even with Norwic, though it can spawn anywhere along that coast. Get in your ship and follow the coast and you cannot miss it.

As for Norhmathr Vikings I have found their camp around the Hagustaldes Monistary south of Ad Gefrin Ham. Again it can spawn in different spots so you have look for it.

if you are willing to exploit the game there is a easier way: edit your savegame, find your party, find the stack with vikingr or whatever troop you want and change the quantity.

1) You have 10 vikingr
2) Edit to have 1000 vikingr
3) Reload the game
4) Full army of vikingr. Takes 2minutes

How would you do that?

I found an efficient way to do it. I built my refuge on a mountain near a bridge just West of a Northmathr Viking spawn point. This point is North of Bebbanburh and East of Hadrian's Wall.

You can start right away but once you have upgraded the refuge and hired some staff it gets easier. Instead of hiring them directly I usually just fought them and took prisoners. I kept dumping Northmathr Viking prisoners in the refuge until I had a lot of them. To fight them in the first place I used mostly Svear Warriors.

Once I was ready to activate some of them I transferred a huge stack of them to my party and tried recruiting them from the camp menu each day until they agreed. Then I immediately put them all back in the refuge garrison and visited the happy widow and other staff to repair morale back up to average. If you don't have the refuge improved you can give gifts from talking to the camp captain or if you have a Gothi in your party you can talk to them and have them talk to your men. You can also try to run to Bebbanburh and pay the bard there many times to play songs or perhaps you might find a happy widow in the mead hall. You can also just attack some Vikings and win a battle or two to boost morale. After the vikings have rested overnight and morale has been repaired it is safe to pull them back out without risk of mass desertion.

I like this way because you get to do some battles and gain some good loot.

What save editor do you use? I tried a couple for a different issue and neither could load VC.
