Hello, I need help and fast to. So I have to do a social studies project and basicly one of the parts of it asks what indians to avoid and to be friends with out west.

So basicly, if you were a settler and traveling west, what tribes to avoid and what tribes to you know be friendly with and trade and help and stuff?

Thanks for helping if you do.

Better idea: When coming across Indians don't do everything in your powers to piss them off as fast as possible and you'll have a good chance that they won't kill you.
Most setters didn't seem to follow this advice and just called in the army if when the Indians did get pissed off.

:| Basically since the start,  most Native Americans where more interested in trading goods with settlers rather than killing them

however as the politics of colonialism started to be implemented savagely, it was important for European and later American conquerors to hold up some groups favorably until they annihilated another before returning to finish off whomsoever was left. The Spanish conquistadors destroyed the Aztecs with the help of the Tlaxcalans for example. Basically you can be either lucky or unlucky when it comes to be labeled a menace or not. During the French and Indians war as well the American Revolution, some tribes fought against or with one side or the other. By the 19th century a lot of the hostilities where are direct result of the encroachment on their lands and countless breaking of treaties by the US government. still everything depended on the who was at war with who. Some like the Apaches where also in conflict with Mexican forces as well. Its a bit complex and not as simple as some would want it to seem. Its more politics than just wondering who is more hostile or not. So for such an assignment its probably better to check the exact date and location first.
