What Happened to My Companions?

I lost a pretty major battle and 3 of my companions got thrown into the enemy dungeon.  While rebuilding my army, the castle in which they were being held was attacked and taken over by our faction, thus freeing them.  However, I cannot seem to locate them anywhere. Neither the "traveller, the "ransom broker" or my companion status "report" has ANY information regarding them.

Where did they go?

Check back with a traveler every now and then.  Usually it takes some time (lots of days) before they pop back up in Calradia.  Sucks, since sometimes it seems to take forever for them to show up again.

But I think this is a problem that wasn't covered by those threads yet.

Phienyx, are you sure the companion status report says nothing at all about their wereabouts? Make sure you checked the the companion missions report page under "reports" not just in the character pages.
There should be something like "trying to rejoin party".
If the companion missions report doesn't even list them, they might simply no longer be your companions and have left your party without speaking to you first. That's not a nice behaviour but on the other hand rotting inside a dungeon and not being freed or ransomed isn't funny either.
However, they might show up in any tavern as soon as your renown reaches a certain value. Yet there might be a bug and they are lost.

If you are quite curios and consider cheating (just to check out if it's really a bug) you could rise your renown artificially with the cheatmenu and check the taverns. In any case I'd like to know whether you get them back or not so please let me know what you find out. (You can also send me a PM and I might check a savegame for you.)

Is it me, or do we get an increased number of reports about vanished companions recently, i.e. since the last patch?

(Or maybe it's just the number of reported cases that's increased?)

True. I checked everywhere there is any info on companions (companion missions) and there was nothing.

Oh no tyrannicide has caught on that I've been stealing peoples companions so they will be forced to download my mod to get more of them! Curses!

Just to be sure:

1. On the travel map
  • click on notes
  • click on characters
  • click on missing companions name in the list
It should say "Under arms (in your party)" or "whereabouts unknown". One of these indicates, that everything is okay and you need to gain more renown in order to have them reappear or simply wait for them to find you (I noticed that it helps to get closer to their last known whereabouts, in your case the fief they were imprisoned in)
If the name doesn't appear at all that would mean you'd never even recruited them. This should be a bug then because they already were in your party and only characters you haven't heard of yet (and professional gladiators) are not listed there.

2. Again on the travel map
  • click on "reports"
  • click on "view companion missions report"
You should see "under arms (in your party)" or some "trying to rejoin your party" for every companion who's currently on your payroll.
Whoever's not listed here at all is not (no longer) part of your company.

Bloody companions - I hate and love them

Seems all they do is moan and I can't do without them cos of their skills.

So after a long campaign - my whole warband is weary - I had been forcing the companions to stay (we hang deserters etc) so I decided to do the fair thing and let em go.

Great -

A year later and they are still gone

Well I guess the "We hang deserters" disables their script (?) to calm down over time wich is obviously triggered by leaving your party. Firing them does not seem to trigger this and so they still hang out somewhere hating you.
