What ever happened to greater than less than?

I'm genuinely curious, I remember back in early beta that it used to be functional and you could make appropriate angry faces >: (
Was there any information ever released as to why they removed it, if so share because I miss the little guy.

I didn't play beta so I'm not sure but I'm guessing they disallowed them the same time they added the kill weapon icons since those use the angle brackets, <img=ico_swordtwo> etc

as a replacement angry face i've always liked } .. good eyebrows

I was in from early beta and I don't remember being able to use them, but I can't say its something I took particular note of.

It was in the very very early beta, like first few days in.

That too is one major thing that was destroyed by the change.
