what effects controversy

hey there guys and gals,
quick question.
what factors effect controversy? i know raiding does, but i haven't raided in ages and my controversy still keeps going too high to claim fiefs.
any ideas how i can bring it down.. the rhoducks are stealing my castles and even tho i recapture them i cant keep them coz my controversy is too high

Losing territory as a marshall for whatever reason adds to your controversy, resigning from the marshalship (?) might help if you are marshall of your faction.

Something to do with resolving squabbles between lords.

I'm not sure if its based on if you succeed or not, but something certainly raises it sometimes when you get involved in that stuff.

Does it decrease over time like renown?  Or are there other ways of lowering it?

The biggest hit to your cont rating is as marshal when you fail to defend your factions territory - usually through enemies raiding your villages or assaulting towns/castles.

It is slow to clear and denies you fiefs and honours from the king.

I discovered your wife can get cont too - this comes from interaction with controversial chars such as rival suitors and such.

ok.. i think it must have been yaroleks war mongering that caused us to get swamped from all angles and led to my controversy rating going so high.
is there anyway to lower it or do i just have to wait for it to go down by itself?

Hey man, not trying to be a grammar nazi, but using the wrong word causes a lot of people to skip over threads. It is affects instead of effects, the more you know! You use affect when something is influencing the object and effect is the result of the object, hope this helps. Sorry, I used to be a paid writer and I know how people look down and incorrect grammar. Also, just wait until it dies down and don't get into fights, controversy is a beast in this game.

Totally trying to be a grammar nazi, and "effect" is not, strictly speaking, incorrect in this context. As a verb, "effect" means "to bring about," so the meaning of the thread title is "What causes / brings about Controversy?"  This may not be the question the OP intended, but it's not wrong, and actually makes just as much sense given the context as "What modifies (affects) controversy?"

Sorry, I used to be a copy editor who got paid to correct paid writers.

Good point my friend! But He was asking what modifies controversy! You can only be affected, you can never be effected! Game, set, and match! Hehe. But in all seriousness, when asking for help it is detrimental to use words correctly and spell them correctly. People notice this, it affects the quality of help you receive and how many will assist. Sad, but true.

Just wait to be kicked out as Marshal, you'll get compensation for your days served, don't think you get that if you resign. Do you?
