What do you want to do first in your first Bannerlord playthrough?

I will probably just be a traveler for my first playthrough, and wear a hood and probably not have too high level troops. I will perhaps get to know some nobility, and who knows, maybe I will help someone out!

That's just so humble.

Given BL's huge complexity, I'll probably mess everything up in my first 3 or 4 playthroughs...

I want to start a criminal enterprise in every town. And then, for role playing reasons, I'll spend my time hunting down bandits because they are my biggest competition and their disruptive influence on the economy would eat into my profits.

I want to start as a slave/beggar with absolutely nothing. Make a name for myself in the arena & tournaments. I will make enough money to hire a small band of men who will help me raid farms, attack supply trains and fight other bandits.

When I am strong enough I will take a castle of the lord who hates me the most. And that will be the start of my empire of tyranny and destruction.

I suspect that the first thing I'll do in Bannerlord is check my inventory to see what kind of junk weapon the game start assigned to me.  (Really?  A cracked spear when I've got all my points in one-handed weapons, or a two-handed axe when I'm skilled with lance and bow?)  Then I'll look for the closest town where I can sell it and buy something that my character has more skill with.  THEN I'll start taking on and looting small bandit parties and/or trading to amass funds for a private army.

Do we know if there is a requirement before being able to join tournaments in Bannerlord? I like Prophesy of Pendor's take on it - you cannot be a nobody and start participating in tournaments right away. The 150 renown requirement makes sense and I would like to see something like that in Bannerlord as well.

It's more like a gladiator game than a chivalrous competition, but some entry fee for the borrowed equipment would be fine.

You know, that reminds me of a game I've played before. It's alright. You might like it.

It is called... *looks around to make sure no one is listening then whispers*... Mount & Blade: Warband.

The original Mount &Blade would work too.

Gee, no wonder it sounded so familiar somehow.....almost like it's happened several dozen times before.

And you know what?  I never get bored of that part of the Mount and Blade playthrough.  In fact it is typically my favorite part.  I typically find the late game to be monotonous, but I really enjoy the feeling of scraping to get by in the early game as you slowly build up your men and means.

When I first started playing Warband, I spent hours upon hours just getting beaten up in the melee fights at the arena. I found that the "main" game was not much fun when my character (and I) was crap at fighting, so I didn't bother doing anything else until I'd got my skills up. I then just roved between tournaments, for more practice and better potential rewards, and after I finally managed to win one of them I was able to enter the feast and get to know some of the women - and I went on from there! My faction loyalty was entirely determined by which of the noble ladies I was courting I liked best.

I'll probably do the same with Bannerlord - I don't see the point in trying to do quests and risk all my gear and money, possibly getting captured (or killed?) in real battles until I feel confident that I can hold my own in a fight. And I like the idea of spending time independently at first, staying below the radar and getting to know the world. I'm not ambitious to rise and rise as fast as possible.

Take the game at whatever pace you find comfortable.  At least in original M&B, my level 1 character usually has enough skills to take on small bandit parties solo from horseback (even a slow draft horse), as long as he's not stuck using a weapon that he's unskilled with.  A visit to the closest town usually solves that.  If he's lacking in skills, then hiring a couple of meat-shields to distract some portion of the bandits can work.  Of course, if your initial encounter is against Sea Raiders or Forest Bandits, it's not likely to end well.

It generally takes at least a week before prices stabilize, so the trade opportunities are rather limited until after the first set of caravan runs and economy updates.

I am a bit different because I avoid arena which is a bit harsh except in ACOK and AWOIAF in which you keep your equipment, but my first playthroughs in M&B were using cheats. I will be a lady in BL, many will avoid as gender of characters will be female from beginning

That's a good way to get better at blocking, using various weapons and improvising in odd situations. I hope they have some sort of last man standing melee in Bannerlord as well.
