Master Knight
Hi all,

I've been playing this great game for some time (2 chars to lvl 20) and had a few ideas I'd like to share.

Perhaps it should not be possible to buy black armor pieces and they can be obtained only from black knights' loot? This would add something to be still looking for in the late game.

There should be some penalty for hiring troops from the opposing side. For example if you're neutral, you can hire both swadian and vaegir troops at 150% price (100% price for the farmers in zendar).
Once you join one of the factions, you can hire it's troops for 100% and must pay 200% to hire the troops of the enemy side.

I feel like light armors need to have more advantages over heavier ones besides faster running speed to compensate for lower protection values (or it just may be that I am not good enought to take full advantage of faster running speed). Maybe introduce a small penalty to weapon swing speed for armors?
For example
plate armor: -6 speed
chainmail: -4
leather: -2
cloth: -1
and no penalty without armor.
Especially for a mounted fighter there is really no reason to chose a lighter armor over a heavier one.

I've read that Armagan implemented a system where your attack will not be interrupted when you are hit for 0 damage, but I always get interrupted still. Is the chance very low, or was this taken out? It seems like a good idea, even a 10%-20% chance would be useful.

And I have a small question for which I don't want to start a new topic so I'll just put it here: I noticed sometimes I do not get hit for the full amount of damage reported.
For example I have 5 hp left, the text says I received 5 damage, but I still have 1 hp left.
Is this a hidden effect of ironflesh skill, or high strength? or am I healing in battle and I had 6 hp when I was hit?
Anyone else notice this?

Strictly speaking, adding more weight to somebody will slow down their acceleration more than their actual speed. If we actually had acceleration on foot that wasn't instantaneous (i.e. it actually takes time to change direction), then you could mimic the comparative agility of the light armour by making them able to change direction faster.

I don't think extra weight on the arms and stuff impacts much on the ability to attack faster (in real life I mean)

It's a fairly good idea though.

Oh, what's happening with your HP, it's beause the balue is being rounded up, while still being kept in the calculations. If you got hit for 4.5 damage and you had exactly 5 health, the value 4.5 would be rounded up to 5, but also your remaining health, 0.5, will be rounded up to 1.

Weight definately slows you down when you fight, not just when you run around. Maybe not so much if you are using a long-range weapon, but melee weapons take alot of swinging around, so if you have alot of armor on all that swinging of arms, shifting of positions, and twisting of heads will really tire you out fast.

Welcome to the forums, Chel.

I actually like the difference between the heavy armors and the light armors in regards to movement speeds. An increase in the speed hindering ability for weight would be nice, but truthfully I'm not sure it is needed.

By the way, 90% of the time I play, I am a very light armored footsoldier.

The recruiting idea is very viable and I like it. Some tweaking might be needed to make it a good system, but the concept is A+.

Well... I think that instead of slowing down as such, armor should tire you (once stamina is included in the game). For the first minute, a soldier in leather armor and a soldier in plate will be able to swing about the same, but then the soldier in plate will get tired and the guy in leather (if he is still alive  ) will have the advantage.

It's very possible to dodge arrows. I'm using an unarmored (well, a sturdy robe anyway, very light) monk on foot with a two handed sword, no shield. It's hard to dodge every arrow, so you really have to use terrain to your advantage when you can. But it's possible. This guy is incredibly fast.

::edit:: oh yeah, and as many troops as you can field. Preferably fellow footmen.

I've fought SCA combat in 30 kg of armour (around 65lb) and the heavier armour doesn't significantly slow me down as far as hitting people with single handed weapons. It does affect my accelleration and decelleration (I remember chasing some lightly armoured archer and finally catching them, whereupon they stopped on a dime and I ran them over unable to stop) but a quick step or two to change the range of attack from just out of range to just in range and back again is not significantly affected by how much armour I'm wearing.

The biggest problem I have is that it affects my stamina. I can do breakfalls, I can do high kicks to head height, I can get to my feat just as fast as unarmoured, but after an hour of fighting, I am _very_ tired. If I'm working at full rate for 10 minutes I need a rest for a couple of minutes, although that improves with practice.

Adrenalin also helps remove the stamina penalty of heavy armour, but not for very long
