What do you make of the new armors in the Beta?

Looks great and I agree with most about the Empire, but should be an easy fix. The leopard pelt looks awesome! Also the Vlandian knight helm is a tad weird, I'd rather have them donning a great helm or something similar.

Will all the empire factions have the same troops or will there be slight differences in their their armor / weapons based on influences of nearby factions?

Perhaps different colors? Anyone know something about this?

Great helm is 13th century though (The Sergeant already has the proto-great helm in game) - They're focusing on 10th-11th century armour (as it's a Warband prequel). :/

Personally I'd prefer this style as the most advanced for them:

and even that is 12th century.

I believe that they are basing the Valadian helms off of the Bayeux Tapestry. The high conical helms where the style of the normans which the Valadians are based off of according to the devs

Fiddled with the items a little - giving the legionary back his old helmet but with the new armour looks alright. Still think hopefully a full redesign (with the original in mind) is in order.

as far as i know they will have the same troops. in game the lore is set so that the split between the three of them is very very recent, and so their isn't a big difference in terms of military culture.

Oh so it's an event that pretty much just happened? Makes sense then, at least banners are different.

Acidentaly posted the below in „Patch 8.0 notes” thread, then realised it should belong here:

Honestly think that the "historicall accuracy" could easily be left for the modders, while Vanilla's should keep up to history inspired- but with this little touch of creativity (that I think was more noticable with previous aesthehics). This brings to mind the previous menavlion infantry look (helmet) that was mentiond before- that made them characteristic, giving them somewhat more civilized look an that distinct TW autors's touch. Also the previous Khan's guard armour (helmet) was spot on. Even the previous bizzare Cathapract helmet kind of kept up with Byzantine flauvor more. Not to mention older version huscarl's valsgarde-like one with chainmails mask that was making the now Variagi look kind of more elite look:wink: Most disturbing (as it goes for accuracy) still is the Vlandian arbalist and sharpshooter design- or am I only one for who his XIII kettle helms and pavises just dont fit in with the era (they could easily slide into the Swadian or Rhodocs lines without changing outfits).....

...Some of the previous version's armory (i.e battanian Fians) were perhaps a bit to "fantasy looking" and some (i.e. old ulfhendar ) to cliche in my humble opinion- so the new ones are improvement (maybe little to polite if it comes to the Berzerkers- those hats suit more to lower class warriors/ brigands hunters imho- Berzerker's crazy altitude should push them in battle bare headed as an statment of bravery and ignorace for the wather  with wolf pelts/baggy pants, fur bots:wink: New Battanians are better, tned down a little (havn't You thought of adding body tatoos for the battanians with some nice celtic iconography? And also for the Varangian (Nordic,Rus, Scandinavian; ) part of Sturgian army- with armor design of some Battanian troops and the Berzekers this should play along nicely. Surely You know the Rus's (meaning Nordic) tradesman on Volga description by arabic scholar Ibn Fadlan: "Each is tatooed from "the tips of his toes to his neck" with dark blue or dark green "designs" ...

....What worries me most is brazen and a bit to coarse colour introduction (Especially Sturgia's Blue "uniforms". Assuming it was mostly dictated by MP pllayability- hope it will not be so overhelming and literal in SP. Always admired M&B aesthetics (however strange this may sound ; ) for not keeping with the typical, mainstream "this factionin red, this in blue etc. attitude- choosing the shaggy, monochromatic natural colors for most outfit's- with the direction it's taking now- not so sure anymore. Again- the "accuracy" comes into mind- those were Yet not the times of heraldic colours (nor the national/factional even). Uniform and intense colour "uniforms" may be ok. with the more advanced and organzed cultures: Empire, maybe Vlandians with subtle red accents as they are now (I see them as a mix of Francs/Normans) Aserai and Khuzait are subtle enough- but the sturgians are to intense and brazen for sure. In the theory of sight - such intense color spots moves the attention out of nicely prepared models and textures- and makes th aesthethics too "gamy"- as oposite to "accurate" or "coherent".
