What do you intend to do as soon as the devpack or more details on coding is released?

I intend to use the M&B engine and code to mod myself into the 50's...the 1750's!!!

I'll probably continue to play the original M&B but I look forward to being able to pwn ppl with musket and saber....not to mention all the exciting fun i can have hiring red indians into my party...

Also things will be better for muskets as soon as the A.I commands are improved.

Muskets, 'cause nothing ruins your day faster than a a face full o' lead.

That's a great idea, I really hope that it'll allow that much customization. IMO, what really makes or breaks a game is it's customizability (sp?) Look at Half-Life and Morrowind. Both semi-decent games, with fantastic modding communities.

I can't wait to see what some of the people on this forum will come up with.

I hope something with riots...the engine is perfect for it

Has anyone read Janissaries by Jerry Pournelle?

In it a group of 20th Century Mercenaries are abducted in a UFO and send to a far away planet to grow a drug - or better said, to make the human inhabitants of said planet grow that drug. Said humans are divided into different Kingdoms (and cultures... some Celtic tribes in a highland called Tamaerthon, who rely on Longbows and their passes and get most of their food from raids on Rome... which is late ROman Empire/HRE, the Legionaries are heavy Cavalry - the best one on the planet, both in discipline and tactics... then there is Drantos, which is Charlemagne/ European Knights (I believe), somewhere else are ancient greeks and whatnot), and in the moment the Earthmen land there is a huge war going on... the mecenaries split into 2 groups, one trying to get their mission done by enslaving the local populace, "allyinG" themself with the aggressor, using their Assaultrifles, MGs and so on; while the other party thinks that this is wrong and at first tries just to get away from the other, but then attempts to stop them... and on the way showing Tamaerthon how to defeat those Legionaries....trying to start an University so that the people can learn "new" things...

Um... back to topic:
While a TC would be great, I'll propably limit myself to allowing the player to play like such a mercenary in the Calradia... (as a TC would be way out of my capabilities)

edit:
Now that I think of it... the "knights" of Tamaerthon behave just like the knights ingame - they are unpredictable, completely undisciplined, tend to charge blindly into the thick of the enemy, get into unnecessary battles, and in consequence get themself slaughtered within minutes unless you point a gun (or arrow) at their head an tell them to stop :lol: :roll: :lol:

Another thing I will do as quickly as possible for my mod is make the shield/weapon slot interchangeable...because there will be no shields anyway so then i could arm myself with 2 weapons at once e.g pistol and sabre. :cool:

Actually, exploring alien world,set in an equivalent of our medieval times would rock. No silly magic, no blasters, but tough life of alien species of distinct cultures, different languages, trying to survive and snatch a bit of glory.

A post WWIII game might be cool. Im a pretty firm believer that the first war after WWIII will be fought with bows and clubs, at least on one side anyway.

Wow, that's almost a direct quote from Albert Einstein

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
--Albert Einstein

Come up with your own material next time.

I haven't read Janissaries, but Pournell rules. You'd both probably like another of his books called King Davids Spaceship.

Back OT, I'd really like to build my own town, and periodically have to defend it from attack. Maybe have an annual income based on how well defended it is...

Wow, did you register just to say that? So he's paraphrasing, give him a break.

Welcome to the forums btw.

Read:
  • A Fire Upon the Deep, Verner Vinge
  • A Deepness in the Sky, Verner Vinge (for 1910'ish to near future alien culture)
  • Heirs of Empire, David Weber (not really aliens, but humans that were lost in space for so long, they forgot about the empire which has just rediscovered them.
  • Mother of Demons, Eric Flint (for really alien aliens. It's also now in the online Baen Free Library

@Vinz Klotho
Thanks for the list *makes a note to look for theese books*

@Nairagorn

I read King David's Spaceship some time ago, but thanks.

@Kurian

IMHO it was *quiete* obvious that he was refering to that quote - it is now against manners to refer to a quote without citing it completely and mentioning who said it first in an informal forum?

Boy, you really got me there.

I have never heard anyone tell a person to come up with their own material before. Your a real clever guy, and it added so much to the topic. I can see you are the life of any party.

Actually Mr. Quote-o-matic, I was thinking of a Patric Tilly book, but again there I go liking another persons idea. :roll:

I would add my own textures to the weapons/shields... That way, I can have the best stuff and look really awesome at the same time. Think Carthage in Rome: Total War (check out www.twcenter.net for some great mods and awesome skins if you have RTW)

TWcenter is nice, I first off would mod the engine to include up to 200 people on the field at once(my performance can go to hell!) and then I would put damages and speeds way up to better emulate battle(I.E. dying in 1 or 2 hits and running instead of walk-running everywhere)

You should always mention the source, otherwise you are presenting it as your own material.

What material? My god some folks have a stick up their ass. If I said I believed in Jesus, would you have accused me of trying to plagiarize the bible? :roll:

Yeah, I think he's learned his lesson.

Ok, probably not, but no sense beating the proverbial dead horse.

I hope it's easy to import models... there's a ton of weapons and armor I'd love to see in game, not to mention the potential for different types of enemies.

I for one would love to go toe-to-toe with a big pissed off bear or lion.

My usual interest is in AI, and scripted events.

What I'd like to do is create an AI system which generates automatic trade traffic, and dynamic merchant needs traffic.

I want to morph terrain based on AI use of it, such as farmlands around towns and roads where there's a lot of traffic.

I'm thinking of perhaps a mockup consumption/production model, and a 'needs/has' system that creates dynamic prices for trade goods.
