What do you guys think about that characters are able to walk/run while attacking on foot?

Able to move(walk/run or maybe turn too?) while attacking, it should be stay? or Changed?

Walking or running while attacking is not realistic, and maybe it just awkward to some people.
Like, think about it that the legs are just walking or running while upper body is swinging, throwing or thrusting. To do like these moves, you need to set your feet on the ground. You could still one step forward or backward with start of these moves tho.

But also, it's a game. So, it could just stay like this.

What do you guys think? It should stay? or Should be changed?
(I'm on it should be changed by the way)

To help understanding

What do you think a lunge is? Cavalry sabre attacks were entirely based on hitting while moving.

Plenty of attacks in motion.

What do you mean? I was certain I could move my character and attack at the same time before 1.0.6. Haven't played for a while.

Or are you talking about the footwork animations? I can see where one could want improved footwork animations, but that might be an elephant of issue to fix and implement. Plenty of other things need to come in line first, in my opinion.

Moving while attacking is an essential part of Mount & Blade's combat system because it factors into the "relative movement speed" system that allows you to deal more damage if there is a high relative movement speed between yourself and your opponent.

Lunge is fine, like stepping(or foot work) is fine. But just walking or runing around while swings or something? I don't think so. And yeah, I should've it's about only on foot, not include the cavalry.

You can't usually get a lot of power behind an attack while you're moving. Feet need to be set. Lunges are as much about getting through defenses as they are doing damage.

Don't need a whole lot of force if the blade is sharp. For boxing, sure. Even then, a flying Superman punch can put people down.

Guess that's a good point. Although not as valid against armor. Maybe a lunge attack that's weak against armor, but gives full damage against flesh?

An Idea that i would have is, to give footsoldiers a bit of momentum acceleration, basically a bit the same like how horses work (but ofcourse way less heavy feeling) This could also add to, when running on full speed, maybe with a shield should be able to bash into others? This would stop the circle running while swinging weapons wildly like a drunken bar fight.

I'm sure multiplayers would want the speed to increase by 20x.... /s

But yea, hitting while moving should severely decrease the damage depending on the leg movement.

Great idea about momentum
My character is beginning to get a lot of athletics skill with 5 focus point and I can dance around any soldier now... it feels like im superman. But its a game, thats what people want. I, on the other hand, want as much realism as possible, even if people find it boring.

The thing that Mount & Blade has going is more focus on realism, if you want super cool action packed fighting, mordhau is there aswell (ofcourse it doesnt have a super epic campaign)
Its more that now every movement is instantly full speed, ofcourse, maybe with high athletics instead of making actual run speed like super man, lower it a little, but improve the acceleration too!

I love the Horseback fighting, because you really feel the momentum of the horses and the hits that go with it.

Also combine it with stamina (so that wildly swining nonstop will slow attack speed) and even the problem of too fast battles will help, sinds the fighting will slow down a bit after so much swinging of weapons (and the faster running)

If you want realism in this game put down the swords against armor and don't use large two handers on horseback.

It feels natural while in-the-moment. I think of it as an abstraction. Darting forward, back pedaling, and strafing left and right more or less represents the use of proper footwork in actual combat even if the end result doesn't look like how actual fighting looks.

But I don't personally notice it when it is happening. So the combat feels like a legitimate test of precision and footwork.

To get an actual picture perfect recreating of real combat you'd need to do something like lock the two characters into specific stances and positions, but that would feel very limiting. Not at all free and naturtal.

Well you dont have to make it the most realistic, I did notice that against heavy armor, altough i did damage with my sword it wasnt much... So it does have that realistic feel.

But you know the funny thing is, this games very strong point are the physics, all momentum is calculated, when you run towards the javelin deals more damage etc, the horses have momentum etc. But foot soldiers dont have any physics at all in their movement. they just move... Try to move around like the characters in the game swining a stick while running around like that haha.

Lord of the rings isnt realistic either, but sometimes the battles felt believeable.

Well you can run and swing your 2 handed Axe, you just wouldnt shift your momentum that fast.
While doing kendo we had a move too where you move backwards basically drawing the other out to follow you, to instantly change momentum backwards to forward, it isnt very easy...

But yea i would say not many people would like the momentum idea, the game would feel way more sluggish, but you would be free to move, doesnt have to be locked in (reminds me of for honor)
