What difficulty do you play on?

When I first started playing I realised that the game gave me a basic handicap by putting it on easy and only applying 1/2 the standard damage to me!

I decided this wasn't on and immediately placed it on standard damage. Compared to what I've talked about with others most people seem to leave it on the default and I have to say the game has been far more intense and certainly makes you think before running head first into a mob of bandits.

So what level do you guys play on?

I have been playing on the default difficulty, but now that the new M7 version is out I'm going to start a new game and crank it up a bit.

edit: My percentage isn't very high because I don't play with mandatory saves, though. As a rule I do force myself to save no matter what happens, but I like to give myself the option just in case a bug hits or I feel like screwing around out of character for a bit.

107%. It's really hard sometimes, like when you get run over by a string of 20 dark knights. :(

Does the difficulty setting directly affect gameplay, or is it just a measure of what level you are supposedly playing at?

Edit: 107%.

I think it just measures. If you take more damage the difficulty goes up.

I play on 91%: Full battles, half damage, good AI.

For some reason i only get up to 53% even with full army, damage and on good combat ai.
i normaly run at 41% tough. full army 1/2 health and average. but will rise a knotch now to 45% (good combat ai)

I play with normal damage and avarage AI. But in the beginning I played on the easiest level but now im not...

I have several characters and I adjust the level depending on how I'm playing. I usually use the maximum, though (107%) It's not too difficult unless you get completely surrounded.

It seems that the save-type you select at the start of the game has the single biggest effect on the difficulty rating. If you select Normal (you can quit without saving) then 53% is the maximum difficulty, I think.

The difficulty rating for me isn't how I judge the difficulty anymore. I mean, I'll play the game with the saving before quitting option (I'm not sure how it's called actually) but anyway, I try to make the game more difficult by:

a) Wearing only hardened leather armor (at most) or none at all.

b) Not using bows/xbows (it's too tempting to get my men behind a ridge while I "thin out" the enemy with missiles)

c) Using weapons I don't like (javelins, Nordic swords) and avoiding heavy damage delivering weapons.

d) Using low level troops mostly (I used to ride into battle with my Knights charging alongside me, but ho-humm, been there...)

e) fighting on foot (this is where some simple, initial formations would add some fun - forming a square or wedge. Something that would, at least before the desperate melee begins, make us more than just armed mobs)

Cool game.
