What are the guidelines for party travel speed?

Having many horses seems to speed of your travel speed a lot, but what are the rules for how much is a good number? Is there a max number that have an impact? One per member of the party or something? I have accumulated over 80 from battles, and sold a bunch without any effect on my party speed.

How does party speed work? There doesn't seem to be any stat to increase that either. Is it scouting now, since pathfinding isn't a thing? Riding skill doesn't seem to effect party speed either.

look at your party speed (expand the bottom right UI, hover on speed).

you will see the explanation. Stuff like:

cavalry +0.08 : your troops with horses
herd -0.4 : you have too many horses. Example: 200 horses, 100 infantry.
horses for infantry +0.8 : extra horses are being used for travel
and so on

keep in mind there are 3 basic types: cargo (like mules), horses and warhorses. They are meant for different things. Cargo type gives you the +100 inventory, etc.

Thanks for the info. I saw that about cargo in game hints. I have some war horses, regular saddle and desert horses, and some for cargo, sumpter and such. I can carry over 5000 in weight, so that is plenty for me for now. I will check and see if I can sell any horses without losing speed. I have enough for every member of the party and then some, so I might be a bit over the limit?
