What are the best units in game?

I don't know why everyone says mamluks are as good as knights; more often than not they spawn on unarmoured horses and have much less personal armour.

As I remember the old Greek Rhodok Philosopher, Derpacles, say, the Persian Sarranid Archers fire so quickly that their arrows will blot out the sun.

Thermopylae only happened because the Persians were foolish enough to fight the Spartans on their own terms.
If the Persians had invaded from somewhere else, things would have been very different.
This could be said about any battle between any nations. Don't fight an enemy when he knows he can win.

And the Persians didn't blot out the sun because of being 'fast shooters' or professionalistic. They blotted out the sun because they had hordes of archers. Oh, and even more hordes of slave spearmen.(Remind you of a certain faction?)

to be fair the persians did not really have a better option, besides for that pass to the rear of the greeks that may or may not be historical... only other ways the persians could have taken would have added many more months to their campaign, thus opening themselves to more attrition and leaving themselves open to being nibbled at. thermopylae only seems like a supid choice for the persians because how it turned out, but when the decision is taken into context of the existing alternatives, it really wasn't such a bonehead choice.

Swadian Knights for ever. When I show up with them every army with troops that are not at least with 20 top tier units I will most probably mess up even if they are double the size of mine with only a few losses. (Even though I have like 15 nord infantry that I can rely on and 30 brodoks sharpshooters. Those mofos hurt like hell )
