What are the absolute necessary mods at the moment?

I completely agree with the above mods, especially RBM and RTS. They shift the game into a far more enjoyable state. I would add these two to it though, with the last one obviously being not too serious, but if you cannot stand things like this, it's a must have. lol

DismembermentPlus - chop heads, hands and legs of in combat.
Xorberax Deadly Combat - wounded can bleed out during combat.
If you want to create your characters from scratch or change companions.
Character Manager - for fixing stats on my character and companions.

I don't think UM belongs in the league of essentials, but thanks for the mention ? ? .
I actually "test" the game more than I actually play it; unfortunately I haven't run any serious campaigns because of how little the base game offers.
That said, essential mods... not counting my little tweaks that I can't live without I would say; Realistic battle, Fluid Blocking (unfortunately not updated), RTS camera (not for being able to play with top camera view but for all the features it offers), Enhanced custom battle (as a testing platform), Freelancer (multiplies x10 the gameplay experience) and CBU (for banner system eye candy). ... and although I haven't tested it directly, I would add Party AI overhaul, Distinguished service, Ludus, True relations, Calradia Expanded and a long etc ...
These + Better Time + distinguished service + Party AI overhaul + (the one with a delayed messenger system), Other mods are great too but I would not call them necessary. Honorable mention for Calradia expanded and player switcher. The last one is being updated and makes it possible to take control of clan members who are engaging in battle.
It quickly became one of my favorites, hopefully it does the trick for you too.
I know I'm not upgrading my game until RTS, Freelancer, Realistic Combat Mod, Ultimate Mounts and Fixed Banners is updated. That's how much I value those mods. ?
I would argue the 75% beautification and 25% mounted related tweaks makes it a must have to Bannerlord, especially if you are a player that plays mostly on horse back. And I really love playing on horse back!

bear my banner (for the eye candy);
improved garrisons;
calradia expanded (and the kingdoms submod if you like more factions).

Just so you no. i am playing with Ultimate Mounts in 1.5.10 and it seems to work fine. and thats with the 1.5.9 downloadIt quickly became one of my favorites, hopefully it does the trick for you too.

. Being a small tweak it's unlikely to "break" with each new update as it doesn't use any dll or other advanced code framework.
