Getting tons of it while mining; doesn't sell for much so what can I do with it?

You can build a new colony, store the items in a colony to build - especially the colony is under 50 settlers so they produce building material on their own, or you could build a Castle when you reach the Nobility class.
Ah ok I thought it was used in crafting items.
