what about adding an ultra-rare armor and weapons class...

Master Knight
It would be cool to have an additional type of armor/weapons class that would be extremely rare. Something like a "masterwork" version of all the existing types and so rare that you might only see one or two masterwork things in a typical game.

Maybe a masterwork weapon would have the advantages of "balanced" AND do one more point of damage than a "heavy" version of the same weapon. Nothing extreme. Armor might have one more point of damage resist than a reinforced armor and weigh slightly less.

I know its not diablo but at least one super-rare weapon/armor attribute wouldnt be too unrealistic. Dunno, im a collector by nature and always get a kick out of super rare randomized items in games.

But please have it along with some kind of storage - it would be painful to cart around your collection all times.

Any plans to make this rare armor non-buyable? It would be satisfying to get this rare armor only as a reward for a long, bloody und difficult quest.
Another idea is to make the current black armor a rare "drop" from Dark Knights.

Good idea! These "flawless" or "excellent" masterpieces should be just improved versions of the already improved weapons and armour, and nothing too mega. In fact, they might even be around just to give a nice alternative to using high-quality light armour as opposed to always going for the heaviest type available.

For example, if a masterful coat of plates had around the same protection values as a basic black armour, people who really like the look of the coat of plates would be able to use it without having to worry about lower protection values.

Rare armour is good, but 'drops' are a horrible concept that should never be used outside of MMO games, which only use them because there's no other way of handling the distribution of items in such a large scale game. The only time I've ever found random drops to be beneficial is in games like Angband where the number of random items is so great, every new play is influenced by the items you find along the way.

If you have drops without the variety, it quickly becomes common knowledge how to get the items and all that's left is a lot of people wasting time in repetitive fights, waiting for the random number generator to favour them. Instead, I'd prefer a system that randomises the location/ownership of rare armour at the start of every game. But not yet, because the number of locations and enemies isn't diverse enough to stop people from hunting it down every time. Unless that can be avoided I'd favour something that you had to make a commitment to. For example, having the option of a once-only quest that upgrades whatever armour you choose to Masterwork level, letting people flesh out their character. For example, if you decided your character was going to wear a robe for aesthetic reasons, then when it became available you'd take the quest to get the finest robe possible.

The advantages of a one-time quest is that even though it'll quickly become common knowledge, the hard part is making a final decision on what to upgrade, so it's not just methodically completing a quest to get the best possible armour. (Although at the moment it is, since the black armour is easily identifiable as the best armour in the game.)

Basically what I am sugesting is that each quest tree from a giver (e.g. count $bar / merchant $foo) throws out a unique reward. For achieving captain rank in the vagier army you could get a plumed helmet, for completing a merchant tree maybe a nice horse. If you were sneaky you could even have the reward based on the number of kills during the quest by weapon, so if a majority of lance kills it gives you a master work lance.

I'd just like to be able to find a heavy fighting axe. The stuff in the game already is rare enough thanks.

in a game like mount and blade, like in real life, the weapon doesnt matter one bit.

you could have a noob fighter with the uber masterwork weapon, and a master fighter with a stick, I guarantee you the master will win.

I am against any of these "uber weapons"

Oh OK, then that must be the reason why the military has not in the least bit tried to invent new weapons and armour...

Heh, its not uber in the sense of shooting flames our your arse and breathing fire

Its just another prefix modifier, like heavy or balanced (already in the game). I never claimed it would make a big difference in combat. Thats not the point.

Sheesh, this forum has alot of naysayers. Isnt there a "NO, NEVER, ILL DIE FIRST!!!" forum to go along with the suggestion forum?

Kynes here just re-iterating the 'don't make it Diablo' sentiment and the 'don't make it unstoppable' sentiment.

But yeah it'd be great to see a few more randomized rewards for constant play (allthough as it stands the random item system works very well)- I just reached level 40 with one of my charcters and came across a watered-steel scimitar for the first time ever.

The key to making a game enjoyable for a long period of time is a good system of rewards that don't unbalance the gameplay. Rare items might be part of that.

Also, if you want at any point to create little descriptions to go with weapon types I'd be happy to lend a hand- it's only there for aesthetics but I allways enjoyed learning about ancient arms and armor from Age of Empires, Baldurs Gate and others.

you could always have a "master craftsman" who you have to find and pay him to create, or upgrade  an item for you. make it cost a lot more because he is the only one who can make it though.

i also think weapons should dull over uses and do less dmg so you have to get them repaired :)

It could get annoying but at least it would give the smiths another reason for existing plus I've found at later levels theres' not alot to do with my money (allthough that is sort of unavoidable)- I'd suggest paying for weapon upkeep and charging more than a measly 3 dollars to stable and accomodate my small army everytime I visit a town.

Ornament swords, or a sash to represent your increased rank would be neat, maybe a crown after a long while?

I think that a Watered Steel fighting axe is hard enough to find, I found a heavy one ^_^.

I've had a watered-steel nomad saber since level 11 or so. It's pretty awesome :D
