SP Musket Era [WFaS] Highlanders

The year is 1743. Twenty-eight years ago, James Stuart, a Catholic claimant to the thrones of both Scotland and England, attempted to overthrow the Protestant House of Hanover in what would become the Jacobite Rising of 1715. Behind him, a number of Scottish clans rose, but after a number of bloody battles, James Stuart fled Britain with his tail between his legs. These last years, the highlands have been a place of unrest; one day, a clan may trade with its neighbours and the other plunder their lands and steal their cattle, all while the British threatens to engulf the highlands entirely. Meanwhile, the rumours say that Charles Edward Stuart, the son of James Stuart, has returned from exile, seeking to reclaim the kingdom.

Whose side will you take? Will you fight for the British and their German-born monarch? Does your heart lie with Charles Stuart and his Jacobite ideals? Maybe you seek to restore your clan to its former glory and drive the British out of the highlands entirely?

The choice is yours.


Highlanders is an in-progress mod that aims to recreate the Scottish highlands as they were in the early-to-mid 1700s, putting you in the role as leader of either a ferocious warband of highlanders or a well-drilled company of redcoats.

- A small map featuring only the Scottish highlands, providing for an intense campaign
- Several factions, such as Great Britain and a number of Highland clans

- Infantry-based warfare
- Cattle rustling
- Custom battle maps portraying realistic locations such as hills and glens
- Few cities but many villages and castles
- Custom banners, models and armours, among them Yamabusi's Highlander Models

James tried to regain the thone by invading Ireland, from where he retreated after the battle of the Boyne - You could simply change this from James to Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) if you are going for historical accuracy and want to keep the map only scotland.........either way I  really hope to see this mod go forward. :grin:
 
Ooh, finally a F&S mod for single-player! :grin:  Good luck, we need more F&S mods! :wink:
 
Just saying, if this does pick up( which i'm sure it will) IT HAD BETTER HAVE THE CAMPBELLS IN IT! Ne Obliviscaris!

They will be in the mod.

Now, I have a couple of questions:

1) Should I go for a few large clans, making it less historically accurate but allowing each clan to be more powerful, or should I make several small clans with maybe just one city or castle each, making them much weaker but more historically accurate?

2) Is there anyone willing to help me recolour the highlander models (http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,145074.0.html) so that the colours of their kilts reflect the actual colours of their tartans?
 
Well, making them smaller and weaker would give the larger (English) faction an advantage, dont you think?

Anyway, sounds like a good idea for a mod broski! Def. following this one and adding it to my list of "Play before the world ends"
 
I've possibly got a friend who studies Game Design on board. If he can figure out how to recolour the kilts, we'll have that done.

The MacLeods are definitely in. They're my favourite clan. Will have to check on how to deal with the islands.

Macleods of Harris and Lewis.

Bit of land that looks like sea and results in port battles?  or even stationary boat battles(although there are boat mods for sp)

dont bother with "clan tartan" it is all just a con from the late 1800s
in real life tartan designs were produced by local weavers for local tastes and would tend to make use of the natural dyes available in that area. The patterns were simply different regional checked-cloth patterns, where of the tartans most to one's liking.

I am aware of it. However, there has to be some way to see what clan a Highlander unit belongs to. I am open to suggestions.
 
iam really hopeing that this mod succeeds. WFAS really needs more mods and i think that this mod can get a lot more people interested in mods for WFAS. looking forward for the first release.  :grin:

ps. maybe you should make some banners to advertise your mod and get more interest in it. i would definitely use your banner if you did.

+ who would you support? redcoats or the Jacobite rebels?
 
Progress has slowed down since school started, but I've got a holiday coming up in roughly two months, so I'm planning to work on it then.

Depends on if I go clan tartans or realistically coloured ones (think "red plaid", "blue plaid" and such).
