In response to the "no more rambo" posts I reply with this: naked, alone, and on foot I have twice now killed 20 armed bandits with only a sword. Only the second time did I get screenies though because I didn't expect the first adventure to work. No cheats, tweaks, or mods of any type were used.

I have 18 AGI and 6 Athletics with nothing to encumber me. I ditch the horse at the beginning of every battle because it doesn't corner like I need it to and I can't efficiently fight off of it with a stabbing-only weapon. The key to all of this is speed: of turning, running, attacking. I have a fast weapon meaning in melee I have the advantage. I never run towards them unless they are reloading and then once within about 10 ft or so they switch to a melee weapon and I kill 'em. I pick a flat area so I don't ever get slowed down on a hill and run back and forth in front of them as they edge closer and kill the ones that come close for hand to hand. After a couple minutes there are only a few shooters left so the time between shots is long enough to run in there and kill one or at least make him put his gun up.

Never, never, never charge directly at loaded firearms. Never stop moving. Concentrate on speed in all things. I even put the lance up so I had 1 less encumbrance.

Now, some of you will be saying that this isn't "going Rambo" because I'm not charging straight into the whole group of them and laying about me with a blade and I guess that's true but then again, wading in and laying about is more of a Terminator thing whereas picking them off whilst half naked with only a blade is VERY Rambo (watch the first movie in each series, you'll agree). The slow and innaccurate firearms make WF&S a face-hugger's wet dream. I've tried it in Warband (I have a female woad raider mercing for the Nords) and the rate of fire of the ranged units there just put too many missiles in the air. If you stop once you get stuck. Even fighting looters is a problem with no armor or shield.

Point is, well, I don't know what my point is. You can't play WF&S like Warband so you can't compare the two. If you are going to compare, compare it to any mod with early firearms.

In the second image how did you get those boxes etc?

i like the realism with the musket.  just because i aim a musket at something doesn't mean i hit the target. i mean come on people these things were all smooth bore at the time. you literally are lucky to hit the sid of a small barn with one. thats the reason people lined up and spit out a line of flying lead. think of it as a very early machine gun (the line formation that is) spray out enough lead and someone is bound to get hit. especially if you are firing into another line. the ability to snipe didn't come for hundreds of years later like 19th century, i believe, with the invention of rifling and the switch to conical shaped bullets instead of musket balls, not to mention the acceptance of using such a tactic. thats why WW1 was so weird. it was a transition from line to guerrilla and supply sabotage style tactics of today.  guns of the time were very accurate and powerful so standing in a line is sure suicide. dig a trench and fire over the top. lob grenades and shells and gas and  to try to flush them out then kill them with machine guns. or just see who dies from attrition first.

i love the recruiting system so far. it makes more logical sense to raise an army from an actual garrison than just peasants who level up. i think that historically most peasants made up the militia or conscript part of the army with guns and cavalry to their back so they wont run. the well equipped and trained part on an army would come from middle and upper class citizens who could afford their own gear and training and would most likely be stationed as garrison units or in a mercenary camp (if they truly existed)

map is great, the models are fantatic. the price was well worth it even with a faulty start. i dont mind updates it's just a part of playing pc games. the story is cool. i like the music. i've made a ton of $ with the trading system which probably needs a bit of tweaking but it's still cool.

overall im very happy with the game and look forward to the many mods that will come out in the year to come.

A lot of people view this as a Warband expansion, when in fact it is a spin off game. If you want to label it as an expansion then it is an Expansion of the ORIGINAL Mount and Blade game.

Seeing as how it is described as an expansion of Warband by TaleWorlds/Paradox, I think those people are right.  From the F&S webpage, under highlights:

The much awaited 'stand-alone expansion' to the award-winning M&B:Warband, Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword is NOW available for purchase from the TaleWorlds web store!

Yes but it doesn't change the fact that it is more of an expansion to the original M&B than an expansion to Warband. And even more of a spin off game.

Rambo character & empire building was the only thing Mount & Blade had going for it; but since WFAS took away both of those features the game has become a very very very poor imitation of Creative Assembly's  Total War series.

What the heck? Total War?  Are we pointing and clicking units?  Are we moving in turn based campaigns?

There are no similarities between them.  At all.  So stop taking terrible analogies from other idiots just like you who rather then use their brains to solve problems, use them as little as possible to make up terrible arguements to justify your in competence.  I bet you were one of the idiots who hated warband and called it a bandwagon that would die out soon.

And no matter how much time you invest in purchasing the best equipment for your character, one musket shot is still going to kill you. So equipping your character with better armor become obsolete in WFAS as well.

Erm.  Have you ever fought in close quarters? If you did so it helps.  And my armor saved me twice from muskets at 73 difficulty so either you are an idiot who charges totally exposed or you have a damage multiplier.

Reddeming features:
Different!!!!!

Rage less? maybe your statements could make some sense if you put any thought behind them.
I love how you point out the only difference is that M&B isn't turn base, even though time stands still if your character isn't moving, and you can't click on units ya; now whether thats a differentiation, downgrade, or upgrade is your call but i'd say its a downgrade... What a big difference(sarcasm in-case your slow). As i've said before rambo character & empire building was the only thing Mount & Blade had going for it as far as differentiating itself & in WFAS they are gone, you could rambo if you play the game on easy with player taking 1/2 or 1/4 the dmg but i simply refuse to do that. Regardless of how you nitpick the minor differences between WFAS & Total War the games are very similar but as i've stated earlier TW is superior in every category.. Not to mention Rome TW had much better graphics & much more in-dept control over what this offers which is to hold this position & spread out while you cower & hide... 73 difficulty may allow you to play in melee but if you were to increase the difficulty to 93% w. player taking full damage, a stray musket ball will kill you no matter how much expensive wardrobe your wearing.

I bet you were one of the idiots who hated warband and called it a bandwagon that would die out soon.
Also stop assuming $hit on my behalf, i've stated that warband is a much better game and i didn't say anything negative about warband.

That is all.

In my opinion I think F&S is great and easily worth the $15 I spent. I would purchase another product from the guys who made it as well as Taleworlds again. Thanks much to them for taking the time to make it.

My favorite part? The early firearms.

On topic, yay! But I agree with the above.

I just gotta say, all the people that rag on how the game is too hard and the equipment is too expensive, clearly don't understand how the combat and such is suppose to work.  I like that this game is "harder", it means more thinking, aside from my typical MW tactic (run in circles with my horse archers set on follow).  And as far as money goes, I just made over 3000 in less than 5 minutes.  Admittedly, it's not going to buy you a grenade, as it shouldn't, seeing as to how grenades are the most powerful weapon you could get your hands on, and should be reserved for people who worked for it.

Also, those of you complaining about your troops dropping like flies...  Learn how to use them.  They are not invincible and they will die if they have a poor leader.  I can easily (emphasis on easily) slaughter a group twice my size, so long as the group isn't composed of large amounts of cavalry.

Redeeming features:

1.  It's different.

2.  The fire arms are fun to use and require more measured shots, hence more tactic than previous MW ranged weapons.

3.  Higher damage and less armor really takes away the feeling of being invincible.  You are no longer a god on the battle field, laying waste to hapless enemies.  Now you are a man, a soldier and leader who has to use his brains more than pure force to win the day.

4.  The implementation of the circling carriages makes for some interesting and varying combat scenarios.

5.  The ability to pick fights in taverns and rob wealthy townsman gives us something different to do, aside from commanding our troops to (insert your usual tactic here).

There's more but I don't feel the need to continue listing, and I'm sure alot of this has been mentioned before, but I felt it was needed to remind the nay sayers.

Redeeming feature?
It's not warband?

I personally hated the knight buttrushing. I always tried to play a different character, a harder character.

I like how it's pretty difficult to win with firearms now. Sure you have them too but the luckier shot wins (usually that AI even at 50% difficulty...)

Money making is easy peasy.

Something I don't like though is how the Cossacks can ally with the Poles...wtfbbqsauce there. The Cossacks aaaaaalways hated the Poles, even if you want to argue the Cossacks are the Poles' vassal. It's still not right >>

Oh and the random 40 musketeers that attack me right after I leave the starting village...bull..$****...

But it still has less features than the original game, which was released over three years ago. Hilarious.
