WF&S Redeeming Features

正在查看此主题的用户

Yea, in Warband I could ride around on my big horsie with my heavy armor bumpslashing with my sword and no unit could get me. Not only does WFaS take out the huge tank horsies, but the pikemen are smart enough to be able to take down horsemen as easily as they should be able to.

It's hard to look at Warband's redeeming features when there is the "no-xp" bug that makes me not feel like playing.

Crossbows being replaced by muskets is a nice change, but I wanted something really new. M&B -> Warband had new features like a dynamic economy, marriages (with a cutscene thrown in in one of the patches, a simple thing which I thought was really neat), politics, etc.

Hopefully the next game will evolve into a better one.

Oh ya smart comeback.. You got me there.. As i said before, thats what differentiated M&B from Total War the fact that you could participate in the battle, not hide & cower behind your mercenaries as the only "commanding" part of WFAS is hold this position & spread out... WHAT A GAME!!!! I'd take bumpslashing big horsies anyday over what i've just described which sounded like a sub par lack in every aspect of what Total War already provided.

you know what I like about this game,
1. if you look back at the other versons of mount and blade, in any city, there is not much see.
with fire and sword however, you get to expore huge cities
2. a patch is hopefully coming out soon

Huh? Comeback? I was agreeing with BigBiker05, not talking to you...
Anyways, I dont see there being anything wrong with encouraging tactics more than ride-into-battle-and-kill-everybody-because-youre-invincible, but thats a personal preference.

Invincible? No... Maybe if you played on easy & not on hardest settings... A dozen arrows can take you down or two javelin headshots, but i would make the AI run out of Javelin ammo before Rambo'ing into them. So ya.. 12 arrows could kill me. I guess i just got to get used to dying from 1 bullet while wearing best possible wardrobe & accepting that this game is just as fun as Warband.

F1 + F1, F2 + F3. So much "tactics" i don't think i can handle it, going back to warband.

The companions are nothing new. Their stories are hardly altered from their Warband and MnB versions. In some cases, not at all.

You realize not everyone with WFAS has played the other Mount and Blades, right?  One of the things I love about this game is that its a 15 dollar way to bring thousands of new people into the M&B world.

More like a 15 dollar disappointment. Not really a way to bring in new customers considering 90% of them will think the game is awful in its current state.

OT: There are some redeeming parts but they usually just off balance them selfs. The storyline is good but is lacking due to no back story for your character. The combat is still MnB at its roots but the guns make you have to dodge bullets and hide behind mountains making the combat not really combat. Troop recruiting is a nice refreshing revision of the old recruitment. I think once that gets patched the new recruit system is probably one of the better additions to this entire expansion. I can't say much more because I have not really played much to begin with.

After its patched I think the game will be awesome because if you really really want to you can still make a pure heavy cavalry army. You won't be invincible like in the middle ages, but who doesn't like the feeling of being the Winged Hussar? Your essentially the last of the "real" knights fighting against the new technology of gunpowder. True you can't be rambo, but to be honest it makes the cavalry charges much more epic knowing that what your doing is suicide yet you against all odds can come out on top. To quote a line from my favorite book. "Though this be the end of the age of heros, it has saved its best for last". Winged Hussars ftw

...my only complaint about playing the game like this is that the tech tree to actually GET an army of winged hussars is ridiculous. You have to go through like 9 troop levels to actually get one winged hussar  This really has to get fixed otherwise I'm probably just going to go the Swedish route and get curiassers since they are easier to get and are still good heavy cavalry.

I keep hearing people talk about how you can't be heroic n' such, yet it feels pretty badass when you're breaking out of a prison and taking out guards with a double-barreled flintlock pistol and your trusty sword. As for the whole dying in one-hit bit, it certainly helps when you strafe or use cover and make them waste their one shot.

OT: I like how they've revamped trading so one can make easy money. I'm also pretty happy about the addition of weapon/armor smiths so you don't have to keep visiting towns praying for the opportunity to buy better gear.

here is page from history, "gunpowder makes medieval armour useless, but it is possible to make some armour (ex breastplate) strong enough to stop bullets but that makes the armour very heave so they began to remove parts (ex: greaves) and just wore leather, just because some of it is bulletproof, the knight weren't INVINCIBLE anymore. making the
game more realistic in my opinion."

I love how some posters emphasize the word INVINCIBLE yet none of you seem to know what it means, i suggest opening a dictionary. Able to soak up a dozen arrows in previous M&B games did not make you invincible, the fact that you could win your battles via melee & be the top contributor to enemy deaths did not make you did not make you invincible, is this part clear yet? Good.. cause you can't do that in WFAS, now thats out of the way. I see people mentioning realism.. Realism is good don't get me wrong but you have to accommodate the game to be enjoyable. If getting shot in WFAS and there was some sort of machine besides you to shoot you in real life, that would also be realistic, but would it be fun? Defending a heavily flawed feature by simply stating, well thats realism for you when it takes away from the game needs to be addressed. WFAS for instance completely abolished the ability to be a melee character as your only hope of survival is to hide behind your mercenaries. BUT hey its realistic!!!  How realistic were invisible ramrods back in those days did they really exist? If they did how would anyone know if they were invisible.

Dude, you completely lost me here.

in-vin-ci-ble

1. incapable of being conquered, defeated, or subdued.
2. insuperable; insurmountable: invincible difficulties.

I'm pretty sure you have the definitions mixed up, or you're just mad troll'n.

The problem with this game is the fact musket era weapons are far too reliable and accurate.  Plus getting cut down after storming the castle  wall by musket snipers from 500 yards away is simply not fun. Mount and Blade simply isn't isn't balanced for this. The heart of the Mount and Blade experience is all about skill based melee and archery combat. There is a lot to said about the thrill of assaulting the castle or enemy line under a rain of arrows...many of which are planted in your shield or body when the battle is done and your gear bathed in blood.

In this game the entire rush of battle can come to a screeching halt by a cheap random musket ball. Is it semi realistic considering the era? Yes. But it sure as hell isn't as fun or satisfying.

We've all heard plenty about why people are so disappointed/upset in/with WF&S, what are it's redeeming features? What makes it worth playing instead of a Warband mod or Warband? List away.

The cover art on the box is nice?

This map looks cool.

Improvements/nice fatures:

1. Very nice, big, explorable cities!

2. Styllish, well researched clothing

3. gunpowder weaponry

4. new recruitment system

5. cool companions (I would still love to have more from the novels, especially Azja, Kmicic and Bohun)

6. a good sollution to the 'heavy cavalry = win' problem which plagued most mods and both warband and 1.011.

7. historical setting. Really, way superior to calradia

8. a unique historical setting, luckily not Viking invasion/greek cities/100 years war/american rebellion against english _again_

1. People on all sides actually die now, not just one. Before I could attack a city and lose less than 10 troops, killing over 300, now I lose between 50-150 troops in a similar assault, with maxed out mercs.

2. Pike/spear infantry aren't totally useless anymore. Before they just did a small bit of damage and you continue. Now not only they inflict greater damage at increased range, they stop your horse dead in its tracks.

3. Guns. Let's face it, they are mother effin well implemented, except for the animation for holding a pistol.

4. Mobile forts.

5. Improved seiges, no longer do you have to have only one ladder. Though sometimes my guys will get stuck on top of the ladders, which is annoying.

6. More MP gamemodes and maps.

In response to the "no more rambo" posts I reply with this: naked, alone, and on foot I have twice now killed 20 armed bandits with only a sword. Only the second time did I get screenies though because I didn't expect the first adventure to work. No cheats, tweaks, or mods of any type were used.

I have 18 AGI and 6 Athletics with nothing to encumber me. I ditch the horse at the beginning of every battle because it doesn't corner like I need it to and I can't efficiently fight off of it with a stabbing-only weapon. The key to all of this is speed: of turning, running, attacking. I have a fast weapon meaning in melee I have the advantage. I never run towards them unless they are reloading and then once within about 10 ft or so they switch to a melee weapon and I kill 'em. I pick a flat area so I don't ever get slowed down on a hill and run back and forth in front of them as they edge closer and kill the ones that come close for hand to hand. After a couple minutes there are only a few shooters left so the time between shots is long enough to run in there and kill one or at least make him put his gun up.

Never, never, never charge directly at loaded firearms. Never stop moving. Concentrate on speed in all things. I even put the lance up so I had 1 less encumbrance.

Now, some of you will be saying that this isn't "going Rambo" because I'm not charging straight into the whole group of them and laying about me with a blade and I guess that's true but then again, wading in and laying about is more of a Terminator thing whereas picking them off whilst half naked with only a blade is VERY Rambo (watch the first movie in each series, you'll agree). The slow and innaccurate firearms make WF&S a face-hugger's wet dream. I've tried it in Warband (I have a female woad raider mercing for the Nords) and the rate of fire of the ranged units there just put too many missiles in the air. If you stop once you get stuck. Even fighting looters is a problem with no armor or shield.

Point is, well, I don't know what my point is. You can't play WF&S like Warband so you can't compare the two. If you are going to compare, compare it to any mod with early firearms.
