Recently where I was a wolf, I referenced it because it's definitely something I reference often as a villager.

Recently, Game 3 in champs where I was a villager.

So literally referenced in my last two games.

Here's an example from two years ago, where I was a wolf.

Here's an example from 2011, where I was a villager.

The wolf examples are there because I do consistently (ha!) reference my real belief on the matter. Inconsistency and hypocrisy etc, are all things that are commonly found in villagers, therefore it is not a tell.

I would say if it is a tell, it's a villager tell. But it's too easy to exploit, all you have to do is be hypocritical in a game and then be townread for it if you're scum, so it is firmly in "Not a tell at all" land.

But, the accusation that someone is hypocritical, inconsistent? Almost always leveled at a villager. Sometimes from a fellow villager, usually from a scumbag.

The 2011 example, guy I said that toward turned out to be a wolf after we lynched him very shortly after.

Hypocrisy and consistency. Just parts of the human condition, I'm afraid. But wolves lurve to lynch townies for being human.

If I tried hard, I could literally find 10 additional references to this belief. I'm just saying it's extremely well established this is my position and never because of Magorian accusing me of hypocrisy.

Basically I agree with all that. And that's why I've come to the conclusion that I could either treat every game like a master thesis on the human condition, or that I just **** around a bit, have fun, and hunt wolves based on a mix of experience, psychology, gut-feeling and extreme prejudice

Certainly. From what I gather from his style, he's analyzing everything, applying a read to every post. It's probably why he changed his opinion on so many players.

Re: Vexing pizza - I probably don't vex you, and I'm pretty sure your results are better than mine. But that's where the 80-20 rule kicks in. I get 80% of the result for 20% the effort. And I can live with that

That STE stuff had me very convinced for a second, but then I read Troll's second post closely, and he still concludes that Phone's misunderstandings were "tame" and he's likely being honest here. You've introduced a lot of interesting points here, but this one is one that I still cannot get on board with.

That's more of the fence-sitting that I'm talking about. From "I think Melter isn't having any misunderstandings this time" in one post, to "I think he's having them, but they're minor and they're genuine, but I'm still willing to wade through them and point them out for you, Pizzaguy" all in 1-2 posts. If you don't see it, fine. I won't push it anymore. But I'm telling you that it's there. It's scummy. Innocents do change their minds and their reads, yes, but not that quick, not like that. It's the strongest case of STE that I've seen since Shatari himself. But if you don't see it, then I can't make you see it. I can only hope that at some point your own investigations may lead you to similar conclusions.

I do not have a problem with inconsistency, as long as I can see the motive behind it as being innocent. For example, I consider Vieira's inconsistencies to be innocent, because I do not get a sense of duplicity from him, of 'playing' anybody or of having an ulterior agenda. But that's not the feeling I get from Soot. It's a subtle attempt to contribute whilst keeping you both on-side that I get bad vibes from.

I'm a little lost right now. I have no idea what I've read of the last 15 pages and what I skipped to read later. So let's do something different. Does anyone have an questions for me while I sort out my thoughts?

I agree with Adaham, the probability is high. I have a nice theory regarding Eli, but I want to see things develop a bit further before pursuing it.

I continue to be persuaded, perhaps not of your positions, but of the genuine process behind the opinions which inform them.

The specifics and nuances you're giving do not feel contrived, to me.

It would be very difficult, in my opinion, to give the volume of analysis you have given, while demonstrating a process I mostly concur with, at the level of detail and nuance you're giving, and still be a wolf.

I'm impressed if this is a wolf. That demonstrates an far advanced wolf game, which I would be surprised by- and that's not to take away anything from this website. I already have a good opinion of the skill levels and good-player-ness of this site, so such an advanced wolf game would really impress me.

Like, at this point I may have to raise my bar for what I consider villagery for this site's meta. I don't get the impression that I should be underestimating people, which I make a point of trying not to do regardless, but I feel like I've done so anyway.

I still read you villagery, for the record. And you can read this as a blatant suck-up if you like, it's just coming from a place of honesty and analysis, but I'm aware it probably sounds like I'm blowing smoke up someone's ass.
