[Werewolf] SMAC: Unity [Game ends!]

And if that post, 459, doesn't send a real clear signal that I'm a villager down your very spine, you're a wolf or you're just not good at reading people on day one, and I won't hold it against any player for guessing wrong in a guessing game.

Extrapolation of what I anticipate him doing D2 onward.
Yeah, but it's just way too many steps removed from what he has actually done thus far.

Step 1: Hard defend Phone day one.

Step 2: Day Two: I defended a villager.

Doesn't seem like much of a leap to me. It's the obvious response to: You've put most of the players in the game on your suspects list, and given almost zero reasons why anyone is a villager.

A: But I defended Phone.

Not a leap, or I'm drunk. And I never drink.
I wouldn't count any of what he has done thus far as hard defence of Face. It may be a comfortable stance to take because it's something that most people (including me) can sympathize with based on meta, but it hasn't been any more extensive than what others (again, including me) have said in favor of Face. Even though I'm a little wary of Mag again now, this approach isn't going anywhere.

What I'd really like to know, is what you think about the bit I wrote about Xardob.
I disagree with your read. To me the change, which truly hasn't been extensive, has only given me a good impression. Normally I can hardly even guess at his role, but this time around he really seems quite on point to me.

Adaham 说:
@Llandy: Or is this something from the spammaster QT? If that is so, please remember that the game shouldn't be discussed outside the thread.

?

There have over the course of the past many weeks been discussion about general game theory and style etc in the Spammaster QT, but at no point has this game been discussed there. I may bend the rules as far as I can, but I don't break them. You should know that neither Melter, Xardob or I would use any form of alternative communication to cheat or to make things unfair to other players.

It kinda saddens me that you think we would.

Therefore, unless you are packies, you have no reason to know why he changed his style.

I don't KNOW. I SUSPECT. Which is the word I used. Feel free to re-read my post without feeling personally attacked because you've changed your style. I actually don't mind the style you're using in this game and it was obviously effective in the last game because hey, we won. So don't take it personally.

Also, you have no reason to believe he changed his style again because he saw the wrongness of his doing, only because you prefer his other style better.

I believe he changed his style because he got fed up of dying and, because as he explained in Black Death, he likes to make changes to his style each time he plays a new game, to keep things fresh and make him harder to read/meta analyse. That italicised part is from Xardob himself in Black Death, feel free to go check if you need it verifying or whatever.

Oh come on, four new replies? I never thought I would find a game here that moves too fast for me to keep up.

All I can do is use my strange brain and thought process to find the wolves. I can't make people agree with the thinking and I can't guarantee I'm correct.

I'm doing my best. More than I anticipated doing on D1 this game, tbh.

I think I care this much because I am having fun and do want to make some kind of impression on the others here that I'm not useless even on my weakest day, which is day one.

But, I'm getting the sense I'm running up against a wall where no matter how much I invest into the game, it will either be neutral or counterproductive. Not sure what to do here. Running away isn't my style, and I'm not really good at knowing when to shush either.

I'm open to suggestions.

Thread could probably use a pizza break.

I've posted my leans, they were, for the faint of heart, buried in there somewhere, something like this:

Magorian went from blue to red because of no villagery process and a wolfy process of looking for mislynches.
Hawk went from a very think villager lean to wolfy because nothing villagery has happened yet, gut read.
Eli went from neutral to a hope and a prayer, does not read villagery.

Vieira went from a red lean based on early installment weirdness to much more solving, and therefore green.
Soot went from an orange lean based on... can't even remember, to green, due to solving.
Phone went from red to blue, purely because I am capable of realizing when I've met a very odd villager who just looks poorly to me instinctively, but continued solving, even if I don't think their solving attempts actually solve it.

Most everyone else has remained the same. Other neutral read I had ended up villagery somehow. My notes are on a different computer.

That's the score, vote is on Mags, he's not finding any wolves today but he is finding a lot of mislynches and also distancing from wolves without causing their lynch. Simple simple.

Can't get simpler than that.

Case on me is OMGUS pizza, you voted me and won't respond to my questions because I decided it was a waste of my time to work with someone who refused to work with me back. (Villager Phone) Also, OMGUS Pizza, you called me out on my massively wolfy game so far, and my soft bussing of Hawk. (Wolf Mags)

I anticipate more votes because I'm just that kinda guy when I'm a villager I botch the diplo. I've called 6 people wolfy today. Just how the ball bounces. I'm not going to get any easier to read.

Askthepizzaguy 说:
I might give Frisian a free pass to lurk assuming he votes every day. I don't think the wolf is doing it.
Even during my blurst lurking times it must have been rare that I hadn't voted at all for a gameday.

Short simple slapdash LoS. Haven't quite read everything yet, but will do. I have to repeat myself; first days are ****n hard for me. As such mostly everyone seems kinda neutral sorta slightly tilting.

Adaham is too zany. Odd. Not wow wolf-odd but kinda odd-odd. But maybe I just mostly recall later-game Adaham rather than first day Adaham who might well be zany. I should check on that sometime. Maybe. If it's not too meta and I feel like it.  Neutral.

Ellisiantus - I can understand why he's being seen a bit as suspicious but I don't think 'Scotch git' is reason for lynching. ()  Probably innocent.

Llandy - plays a lot like in her few previous games (as I recall). Unfortunately, if I recall correctly, 5/6ths of those were as baddies. And yes that math checks out. Does that mean anything particularly powerful about current role? Nope, if only. I'd have to see more games with her in it and with a glaringly obvious difference in villain-play and innocent-play.  Neutral.

Phonemelter - Gets sidetracked, slightly agitated, severely phonemeltery. Neutral.

Magorian -  Really takes me a lot longer usually to even get some kinda grip. The 'neoxardobbity' is new but possible front? Trying out something new? No-nonsense disguise to hide the evil within? Eh. Neutral.

Soot - jerk.  Interesting but haven't read much into him. Again, neutral.
Hawk - lack of posts sticking to mind makes it hard to make a read (ohhhh THIS is why no-one likes my lurking  :iamamoron: )
Vieira - heh I wanted to add the missing i and subtly emphasize it with bolding but now it looks like [/b]ra. I am not quite sober and this is not quite a read. Can't say all that much, again.

Xardob - I can't pinpoint why but Xardob somehow seems more laid-back than usual. Could be like with Adaham that I'm just used to a more sharp late-game Xardob and early Xardob (still sharp but less at-your-throat) is just less well-remembered. Probably innocent.

Pizzaguy - No meta at all possible here, for me, because I've never played with Pizzaguy. Aggressive style of conversation and interrogation and hunting which miiiight mean a) active innocent and as such a huge boon to the town or b) werewolf-in-disguise, picking a target and latching on in the name of wolf-hunting. I get the merest twinge of a feeling that minor prodding suspicion is taken as a personal jibe but that again might just be in my mind. Neutral.

5 new replies. Of which 3 by pizza. :þ +1

@Pizza:

I think your contributions are doing a hell of a lot for the activity in the game at least, which I certainly appreciate, and welcome. But while I like your proactive style, I personally find it just more effective to make your case and let others then make of it what they will, and later revise it if needed, rather constantly pushing an argument with your suspect. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep engaging them, but letting it sit for a while first can be better, as far as I'm concerned. It's a conclusion I've come to quite recently while playing here, and I really just think it may be a bit of a conflict with your style compared to the general take on WW here.

You clearly have a lot to say, so maybe just pursue other approaches in the meantime, while the less active players mull over your current finds. That said, I'm actually quite impressed by your recovery from tunneling on Face. If you are innocent, at least.

I'm open to suggestions.

Do you care for frank suggestions? Because I have some. Here they are. 10% ale, 5% whisky and remaining percent pure wisdom. I don't math.

1) Rome wasn't built in a day. It's good that you're so into posting here and interacting here that you want to get involved, but I get the feeling the pace of our games is, for the most part, more sedate than what you're used to. Not everybody can do "heat of the moment" style posting, and we're quite used to allowing for timezone differences, and RL/sleep/work priorities, etc. You've said you like to 'real time' post which is fine, but you might also want to try to mellow a bit. I'm not saying abandon hunting altogether, but take some time to think about things and formulate replies to posts which, as Magorian said, cover any pertinent points so that people don't have to keep asking you for answers. Right now I get the impression that I could roll a tinfoil ball in front of you and you'd go chasing the shiney. Nobody will think any less of you if it takes you 24 hours to respond to one post. We don't even have a Day 1 Deadline yet.

2) When feeling perplexed, I find it useful to ask questions, look at responses from the person you've questioned and others, make notes or file them away or whatever you do, and then come back and look at them later and re-review the answers in light of new evidence and see whether the answers you received tally up. It doesn't always give immediate feedback of course, but this really helped me to mellow out and do some unemotional hunting on Day 2 of my last game. Take the approach that this is more like a marathon than a sprint, otherwise you risk burning yourself out.

Hope that makes sense and or/is remotely useful. I will now go and get another whisky

4 new replies? I ignore you in favour of whisky, four replies!

And you're still ignoring my actual arguments. There's no villager reason to do that.

I don't see any actual arguments you've posted. I'm a villager, so, I have my reasons to do everything I've done all game long.
oooh that's actually dangerous grounds.

Also all these comments about 'that's not wolf-hunting!' sorta makes me think of 70's cop shows. Or the image I have of those at least. Probably not an accurate image but damage it gets results.

Having to say "LOOK GUYS, I'M A VILLAGER" every other post in not, in fact, villagery.
