Were the graphics DOWNGRADED?

Sorry for the clickbait but I'd like to address a problem really few have been talking about.

The last beta patch (b0.9.0 on March 28th, just prior to the release) had a huge impact on the lightings, making the game brighter and sometimes giving the impression that Global Illumination is disabled.
This is particularly obvious in the MP armory:

But it's also striking in the game at times:

So far I've seen only one thread addressing the issue, with no reaction from the devs yet. One reshade mod also has his creator stating that the lightings were downgraded to save performances.

What are your thoughts on that? Is there a way to manually revert the lightings settings to what they were before that patch? Thank you

the one on the right looks significantly better. was that before? just needs a brightness/contrast adjustment by the user.

Yea that was before. Unfortunately there are no such adjustments in the game options

There are under the graphics section. Options -> Video -> Brightness Adjust Calibration.

Try it?

The lighting seems to have changed, but I haven´t seen any downgrades in terms of textures, models or anything else. I do agree with you however that the new lighting looks a lot flatter. Perhaps in an attempt to make it look more realistic?

Recalibrate your brightness in the settings. Follow their directions like they say on the calibration and it’ll look lime its supposed to.

@Dearmad @Danny D
I tried it but the result was not convincing, which makes me think it's something deeper that has been changed. Will try it again though.

That's also what I thought. Very bad decision imo.

I think it's more likely that something like this would be done to try and help performance/crashes for the huge new audience. Seems more likely than them fussing over the look at this particular moment.

I hope so and it makes sense, but so far the devs didn't say anything about it.

I feel like the lighting is inconsistent in this game. Sometimes it looks great, sometimes absolutely horrible.

Tweaking "Brightness calibration" doesn't change anything.

Look at how great the characters used to look in the Armory:

Now we have... "this":

Clearly not as flat as yours. Something may be wrong on your end. Especially look at her right forearm. Details still there and not washed out.

They probally twerk the lighting for people who always crash maybe. but i dont like if they downgrade the game for the crasher to play . i enjoying the graphic.

Considering that even the UI is brighter in your showcase, I am not sure if it really is the impact of a lighting change or just some general gamma level ****ery, maybe even from your gpu.

Graphics look fine to me is your lighting set to high with dynamic shadows enabled?
I've got everything on max with ambient occlusion and Vsync off (the former tanks my frame rate for some odd reason)

I have noticed that Torches (in towns etc) will not cast shadows - the lighting seems to be "baked in" there.
