No but it competes with my large bag of bodkin arrows warbow with horse archery 8 and agility 24 and 387 archery!+a heavy hunter

none of which, sadly, stands a chance against my grenadier hand bombs, base value of 110 piercing damage.  Even with my measly 120 throwing, I can deliver 200+ damage with one hit.  Horses, men, women.  Goodnight.

The bastard sword also weighs more, which means it animates slower.  It simply can't compete next to "proper" one-handed weapons, which do less rated damage but a.) do not start off with a penalty and b.) weigh less so swing faster.

Personally I never found a use for the bastard sword.  Either I've got a shield, in which case I've got a sword (I favor the plain-ol "sword", though the nordic sword is good too... don't like scimitars); or I don't have a shield, and I'll go for a sword of war or a battle axe.  The bastard sword, like the vast majority of tools designed to do multiple jobs,  doesn't do as well in each category as the "right" tool.

You'll never get fast enough to out-fight more than two enemies if they can all hit you at once. Sorry.  Solution: don't go down in the middle of a swarm of bandits.  Sometimes having a shield can let you survive long enough to get out of the middle of them and start fighting again, but don't count on it.

Actually, even with my crap melee skill of 80 or so I can still fight half a dozen at once when I get unhorsed so long as I have a good shield and backpedal a bit.

The only thing I could see using the Bastard Sword for is so that you can swap the shield in and out to protect against archers or get two-handed  strength, depending on the circumstances without having to use up 3 weapon slots.  So you could have Bow, Arrows, BS, Shield or Jarid, Lance, BS, Shield and be ready for anything.

Personally, I still think it needs a slight power increase, though.

Hmmm.... mabye. personally, i carry a 1hd sword most of the time anyway, for horseback stuff. and if i'm on foot i'll take a 2hd

Vice Versa for me. If I dont see archers anywhere, I just blow those dang Swadians to Kingdom Come two handed. And if there happens to be few guys with cross-/bows, one handedly with a shield it is quite useful. I dont see that much of a penalty with it, using it with 1h or 2h.

(Whatabout the three handed weapons?)
