Weapon Proficiency

I'm sorry if this has already been asked/addressed, but I'd like to know exactly what the weapon proficiency skills do? Do they increase damage? Speed? And does speed only apply to the frequency of your attacks, or also to the speed which the attacks are carried out? Thanks!
 
Hi Arathiel,

weapon proficiency increases damage (except crossbows), attack speed and accuracy (for ranged weapons). Attack speed determines the speed of the action (and hence , frequency as well).
 
Sorry to post so late. But I swear that the weapon speed affects blocking also. After you hit someone you do a short twitch where you cannot hit or block, and if you hit a mouse-button nothing happens. But if your weapon skills are high then your attack speed is faster and that twitch is really short. I don't normally cheat; but I turned my weapon profeciencies up to 500 or so for one arena match, and I did not notice any "stun block," where you cannot do anything right after you hit or block. I am always blocking something immediately after I hit someone and my character won't block.

If I remember correctly, it also applies to you twitching after being hit.

Well that isn't always as ridiculous as it sounds.  For example, shield speed makes no difference because a shield "materializes" as soon as you hit the block button, and not when it completes its animation.  I'm sure its not intended to be this way, but that's how it works.  Sometimes certain game mechanics don't work as intended or have side-effects that wasn't forseen by its implementer.

Armagan posted that 20 months ago, so things may have changed in the ensuing updates.

If crossbow proficiency does not increase the damage that they do, what is the purpose to increased crossbow proficiency?  They are already exceptionally accurate when under 100 proficiency points- Is there any purpose to this being higher?

Faster reloading, perhaps?

You reload like somebody pressed the FastForward button. It's crazy fast at high proficiency levels, can reload a sniper crossbow in under a second.
