Weapon Lenght

Is there a good way to measure weapon mesh length? I've tried compering  my weapon and other meshes, but it's inaccureate and slow way.

there is no set "ruler" in M&B that I know of.  Besides the length of the weapon (for hitting) is not defined by the mesh, it's defined in the item tuple.

I would be nice if there was a "meter stick" that someone made.  All the measurements (that I can tell) are in centimeters.

well that would be a good idea.. okey.. someone good at modelling and math!

I could make one easy, but the scale is the issue.  It would be slightly off for small objects, then get way off on big objects...

I could base it on the hands.  My hand is about 22cm long.  I'm 5 foot 11.  could base it on the average man being my dimensions.

Weapon length refers to blade length.  So if you have a sword blade look at the distance in wings on the z axis.  It should give you an exact measurement.  It probably wouldn't be too difficult to make a measuring stick in wings using the cut command. Just use a cube stretch it out so it is exactly 200 cm long then cut. Each vertice could be 10 cm.  If you were feeling really creative you could use the colour faces command so that it could be imported into brf and used there.

the issue there would be if the scale in Wings is the same as in the game...  I wouldn't bet on that...

actually, afaik, the length refers to the center of the point where the weapon is held, to the tip.
i've found that scaling down objects in 3ds max to 2.3% of their size. with unit setup set to inches, usually gets an accurate size measure.

BRFEdit has a built in weapon length feature, but it doesn't seem to work in the latest version.  However, I've heard an older version of BRFEdit still works to measure this but haven't tried it myself.

It might not take into account the length of the hilt, though.

Does anyone know how it calculates the weapon length? or even where the game measures weapon leangth from?

Surely it's got to be different for swords or staffs.

Well the weapon length seems to get added to the animation distance.  What I mean is the spear thrust seems to hit farther than the spear overhead chop even though weapon length is actually the same.

you can test weapon length by going into a village, and tru and stab people with a spear from a distance.
if you do it many enough times, you'll be able to see approximately whether the spear hits the person or not.
oh, and hold down the "view self" key, where you see yourself from the side.
