Sorry Serious but I can't resist this one

Ok, on topic then.

Will you have German barbarians dressed in skins and furs?
Do you know that some Germans actually used mail armor, especially the ones that overwhelmed the Roman Empire?
And French nobility in XV. century plate armour?
Sounds cool to me.
And will Mongols be totally awsome and able to win every battle?
Nice idea.
Or will it be kinda like that, but completely different?
Edit: Ermm, in 1000, the Germans were like most Europeans.

Yes, BARBARIANS

Names sound pretty uninspired. Though I like "The The Royal Dream"
How 'bout *fictional region name here* - Land of Conquest

since it will be different cultures fighting each other how about "Clash of Nations" as a name.

EDIT:im guessing (The)The Royal Dream is just a typo.

Yeah, but i want to bump the thread. I'm disappointed, but not that surprised that not many people are posting.

Some interesting ideas there, but like everyone says...get something done, maybe release a playable beta, then you'll get comments with something more than scepticism. Writing a list of what features you plan to put in a mod is still very far from making a mod and most mods never make it past this stage.

Germans weren't barbarians in 1000 A.D.

Germans were still barbarians in 1940s...

Dude as a German I find that seriously offensive. Firstly you might have skipped history but not all Germans took part in murdering people or behaving like a bunch of superhumans and secondly I do not see the Americans acting any different from 1945 onwards until now, Britain murderered thousands of people in the colonies, same as France, the Soviet Union was famous for their GULAGS (well established before the first German concentration camp), Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge killed the nearly all the educated people in Cambodia, same as the Vietnamese, Japan killed thousands of Chinese and i could add to that list as you please. So what makes you single out the Germans or rather the German people as a whole and what right have you to do so?

Aethelred 说:
and they kicked everyones ass
Yeah, they especially kicked the asses of all those millions of civilians, ethnic undesirables, and Soviet prisoners of war. An achievement worth celebrating, without doubt. I congratulate your callous idiocy.

Same as above... the so called Wirtschaftswunder took place after 1945 and it was an economic phenomenon and in this sense Germany kicked everybodies ass sorry to say that but you can't relate that to the war and what happened during it, it has nothing to do with it.

Yeah like hell they were. Wirtschaftswunder, and they kicked everyones ass

Well, if by "kicking everyone's ass" you mean waging illegal surprise attacks on their neighbours, then committing industrialized murder of millions of defenseless civilians, initiating bombing campaigns against urban centres, ignoring the Geneva convention on every account ("hey Geneva is in Switzerland, let the Swiss worry about that"), waging total indiscriminate war at sea, murdering hundreds of thousands of prisoners of war, then yea, I have to agree with you, they were pretty "asskicking".

On the other hand, having a Reich that was meant to last 1000 years being bombed into dust and having the Russians fly their flag in German capital in just some 4 years of war, well that's not all that "asskicking" really (even a country like Afghanistan resists better...two world's greatest superpowers have invaded them for over 30 years now, and they're still not conquered, lol)

But enough off topic from me in Lord Serious' thread. If you wish to continue the debate, I'll be more than happy to accommodate in PM.

So what gives you the moral high ground here mate? Did America do anything different in the Vietnam war? Did Britain say "Oh well the Germans did wrong but because we are not like them we will not attack civilians that can not defend themselves!"? No it did not... Britain blew Dresden to bits which was a city with no military industry what so ever. The city was in ruins, thousands of people killed and they even managed to set the Elbe (just one of the biggest German rivers) that flows through Dresden on fire. Or was the bombing of Hamburg anything else than what the Germans did to Warsaw or to Coventry? Industralized murder? Well definately but who did it? Did 80 Mio German civilian know about it? Did they all take part or do you just have an irrational hatred for Germans? Didn't the soviets and the Japanese have such nice deathcamps as well? Maybe you should really think about what you're writing cause what you do is declare that 80 Mio Germans than did all that you say, knew of everything that you blame them for and that 60 years later 80 Mio Germans, of which at least 5 Mio Germans do not even have relatives that lived in Germany during the war, should still be ashamed for crimes that they have not commited and that most of them absolutely condemn. Do you even have a remote clue what it means to live in a country which, even though other countries and their leaders have done similar things, after 60 years still doesn't have the right to even have a modest sense of pride in their country, in which every time you sing the national anthem or wave a flag you are critized by Israel or the General Jewish council for it? Does your school curriculum demands of every pupil at the age of 16 to visit a former concentration camp? Well ours does and I lived in that country for 20 years of my life and I'm sick and tired that I still have to apologize for something that I had no part in, that I can not display even a modest sense of pride in my country without being critized and that I still have to bow to people like you just because 60 years ago something awfull happened. Do not get me wrong mate, I do not plead for ignoring or forgetting what happened but after 60 years of reperation, apologies and being constantly reminded of what people have done that lived in this country 60 years ago and were of age whilst following a mental wreck from Austria I think it is enough because no nation and nobody deserves to be treated like dirt if it shows remorse and tries to heal the wounds that have been caused 60 years ago and still apologizes for something that they did not want and that they did not do.

Again no matter in which far off land it is set... if you wanna base it on the Middle Ages than Germans were not barbarians dressed in fur and skin. The Holy Roman Empire (which is essentially Germany) was the most respected nation in that time, the emperor was crowned by the pope and the defender of christendom and if an emperor went to war during that period... well let's just say he could raise about 3 times the manpower that a French king could and probably 4-6 times that what a English king could.

Sorry to go off topic again but I really feel offended by some of these posts here. I am studying history, I have visited Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Mauthausen none of my relatives was in the SS or had anything to do with the genocide that took place and I do not deny what as happened BUT there is just so much abuse a German person can take and I think some of the people here should really consider their attitude.

for the last damn time - you know what? **** it. I'm changing the time line. For god sakes, you people just wont quit. I said "GERMAN-LIKE", emphasis on the "like."

I'm not lashing out at you specifically, but everyone keeps saying the same goddamn thing. I meant "German" because in the roman times they were considered barbarians. And in the middle ages, not much **** got done, so i figured i would use them as an example. So everyone, please shut the hell up and stop posting the same thing.

Good day

Actually just to clear things up for you... everybody that lived outside of the Roman Empire (Celts so Britain, Spain und France, Germanic tribes, Carthago, Asia Minor etc.) was considered barbarian same as Chinese people regarded everybody from outside their realm as barbarian. So it's not so much people picking on the German thing more that you just generalize too much in that way. You could have just said: There's gonna be a barbarian nation/country/tribe. Everybody would have known what you meant. If you think that in the Middle Ages not much **** got done... well than you should really get some knowledge mate, I would be glad to help you but seen as you now go for a Roman mod I can't.

That's a pretty broad group to put all those people in. In Roman times, the Carthaginians were more Macedonian in their army structure than Celtic/Germanic, as well as some of Asia Minor. I can help him with Late Roman Goth/Frank pictures but that's about it as I'am in a mod team. He isn't trying to make an historical mod though, he is trying to make a fun mod with a bunch of factions loosely based on several real world cultures in different periods.

Well he is not classifying all the peoples outside of the Roman Empire as barbarians himself, he's just saying what the actual Romans considered barbarians. Just a little nitpick.

Well alright I was just saying  And yes of course Asia Minor and Carthago were already pretty civilized by than with an effective army BUT so were the Gauls. Speaking in broader terms though... everyone that was not a Roman or at least living in a Roman province was considered a barbarian if we speak about the heydays of the Roman empire and, as our Roman friend Tiberius Maximus points out, if we look at it from a Roman perspective. Well I'm trying to make a historical mod btw but first I want some feedback in the general mod idea thread  .

Ok, ok, can we please stop combining the words "German" and "barbarian" for a moment? The nations that this mod's factions will be based on are their images in the eyes of the majority. Not everyone studied much history. Most people think Germans were barbarians till Hitler came, most people think Turks are a desert people and most people think Italians are religious cause that's where the Pope lives.

I think that most people think Germans were quite a decent bunch of people until the dude with the helmet came a.k.a. Kaiser Wilhelm, after him they started to like us again... you know **** loads of noble prizes in science and very renowned artists etc. and than we became barbarians in 1933 all again.

Have you already looked through all the current medieval European mods? Just skimming over your suggestion, it looks a fair bit similar to existing ones, unless there is something I missed.

Thanks for the reply but do you really think this is the right place to comment on this ?

Oh, I have read it already. It has some interesting ideas I have to say but I'am not sure many modders go into that thread.
