No.. Quote from me:
Scimitars were introduced in Middle East before the 10th century, perhaps since the 8th century by persian influences but it is difficult to know exactly. Besides, Arab world is large, it depends of the regions. By the time of the Prophet Muhammad, Arabs used only straight swords, called "Bedouin sword". When Turks arrived in Middle East, curved sword were more and more common, all the more as Turks started to occupy the main place in armies. Since the 11th century, Arabs were a minority in Middle eastern Islamic armies, consequently sabers were quite widespread, perhaps prevalent. But the more prestigious weapon was still the straight sword, as the Prophet only used it. So khalifs and kings had straight swords. In the Islamic West, things were quite differents. Turks almost never been there. All swords were straight, and North African/Andalusian Arabs and Berbers only used these straight swords until the late 15th century, when curved blade were introduced.
The fact that sabers were introduced in the Middle East in the early Middle Age doesn't necessarily mean that they were more common than straight swords by the middle of the 12th century

You english is quite understandable

but i thought that Bedouin sword was cruved like this

During the Middle Age most of them were straight. I don't know the period of the sword you posted, but I don't think it is medieval.

will the tropps from the arbaic nations use the weapon call scimitar or i arabic called saif? because i think that is the weapon is used by the arabs back then.

The Arabian swords of the time period were straight. We find that even before then swords tended to be straight. The sword you are referring to is called the Al-Ma'qoof (curved) sword and has Turkish origins during the 15th century. Thanks for the comment.

Me too, Arabs and Europeans used straight swords and ancient Greeks used gay swords

What are your current goals for this mod and how close are you to achieving them? There should at least be the possibility of releasing an alpha version.

We are quite far away from that.
In fact, to be perfectly honest, all researchers other than me have been dead.

So the majority of your team quit?

Nah.
The majority of the team have been put on hold because I wanted to finish troop research before getting any work done. I also wanted to do some more research on things like background for the purpose of historical accuracy. With the x-mas break and the New Year, mainly Sahran (only person who really contributed to troop research) simply stopped posting. I do have some research piled up, but with school starting things are normally going to be slow.

The modelling/texturing side of the team really hasn't been tested.
As for the coding, well, its dead.

I'm not going to stop working on the mod though.

Sorry for stopping posting, mate. Afraid I was finding myself getting drawn into a myriad of other directions with 1257, TPW, and real life. I have to admit I was also worried about reading the writing on the wall and giving into a self-fufilling prophecy of "Well, it seems like everyone but Outlawed is gone" which if it wasn't really true, furthered it along. Now I'm getting uneasy thoughts about how my buddies at 1257 are doing a sub mod a decade or two removed from this period (which is totally fine, but makes me worried about if I could be 'bipartisan' to both). I think I'll be able to, though.

I think I'm also worried that the scope of the mod may be too large to attempt on a first release, all the more so when you mentioned your approach was (if memory serves) for approaching each unit armor's individually rather than doing 'sets'. I think W:TR might want to aim for a smaller scope and then expand from there, since momentum of releasing does a lot for drawing attention and workers to a mod.

The natural choice would be the Middle East, with Crusaders/Byzantium/Armenia and the Muslims, although that region is getting crowded on Taleworlds (which shouldn't really factor into your decision making, but it's a devil's advocacy). Another option would be starting with a West Mediterranean Crescent/Cross dichotomy of Al-Andalus and the Moors & Sicily vs Tunis.

I was wanting to release an alpha once we finished troop research for the Middle-East and Outremer only including the Levant actually.
Nonetheless, research for troops is largely done. Seeing as the only real factions left are Italy (I've read up on this so its a matter of writing things down), France, Almoahds and Iberia which I reckon will have close unit types sort of like the Muslim factions.

If we could just get over that I would start working on models and Kami would get working on textures again.

Just a few factions left to go really.

What I might do is release an Alpha of all the area, but with less features to see how people feel about the ground work.

If you are unable to complete research that's totally fine, but the freeze sort of demoralizes me to be frank =p
If you want to take a break, that's also fine as well, but just post here saying that you'll be on hold for a period of time xD

Sorry about not mentioning it and just kind of disappearing. College starts for me again in a week and a few days or so. I think I can continue to finish the research for the factions at least, although I would think it might take me a few weeks.

Awesome mod guys!!! Can't wait till it comes out. But I just don't like how you used an inacurrate medieval map as the game map. I would rather use a real map. But keep up the good work!

p.s.  Please no camel units for the  arabs. Im so tired of seeing those in games. They are so innacurrate becuase arabs never fought on camels!
