Sergeant at Arms
Hello, I'm Azsouth,

I'm attempting to make a Game of Thrones mod titled "The War of the Five Kings". Now, you may ask, "Why, Azsouth, a Game of Thrones mod when there is already a wildly successful Game of Thrones mod active and two inactive mods". My answer to you is this, my vision of the Game of Thrones universe is vastly different than the active mod and somewhat different than the inactive ones. Unfortunatly I do not have the skills required to make this mod, so I'm appealing to the Talewolrlds modding community for someone who shares my vision of this amazing universe and who is a well rounded modder to take the lead. As well I'm asking for like-minded people to donate their time by either helping with what they specialize in be it modeling, creating a map, sceners, coding the quests I'v made up, as well as all the other things that go into mod making.

Features I Hope to Introduce/Include:
1) Kings Landing if taken would automatically go to the leader of the faction that takes it rather than being dolled out as just another fief.

2) In Westeros you won't find slavers but Wandering Crows which you could sell you prisoners to for a discounted price, if you want to sell people into slavery you should go over to Essos though you won't find slavers in Pentos or Braavos as slavery is outlawed there, and if you want to do something with you prisoners give them to the unsullied trainer and have them become eunuchs.

3) faction locking lord so that way they can't just decide to change to a different faction mid war, it's lore-breaking, the only way lords did switch sides in the War of the Five Kings was if their old leige lord/king died. in the event that a faction is wiped out I would attempt to continent lock the lord so they only re-appear in factions in their home continent (Westeros or Essos), it was uncommon for an Essosi lord to fight for Westorsi kings (Salladhor Saan and the Myrish captain notwithstanding). Also as an example lords like Ser Gregor Clegane, if the Westerlands is wiped out, would not ever be caught fighting for Dorne, the North, or the Riverlands

4) locked diplomacy, true that the current active mod has locked diplomacy but I would have it tweaked so that even if you did the "make peace" quest after the truce period those factions would go back to war with each other. Also this would help stop lore-breaking alliances like the Riverlands and Westerlands from happening (which is not a problem of the active mod but hasn't been worked out in one of the other Game of Thrones mods).

5) would be a new category of keeps called Holdfasts, you would be able to recruit a unit or two above the levies you can recruit from villages, these would serve to fill voids and dead spots on the map and allow armies to move farther than they would if there was nothing there, they would require a siege to take them unlike villages, they would basically be smaller keeps with palisade walls. I'm hoping on release I'v figured out a way so that way raiding parties can take these instead of requiring the marshal and the entire realms army to show up.

6) this would probably be included in a later version but I'v been kicking around the idea of events, they would happen on certain days (say like every 50 days), and depending on the choice you make it will go onto a vices and virtue sheet which would give you either + or - in certain stats, honor, renown, ect and would also be reflected in how lords treat you. If your honorable, lords will treat you well, if your not and your captured, expect your ransom to be very high.

7) Cities you would be able to buy land and towns you would not, in both you would be able to buy enterprises, and in future updates I will look into making the enterprises of a certain region or town/city more profitable depending on what they are know to make according to lore.

8 ) unique poems and songs from famous singers and poets throughout the universe, you can only learn these poems and songs from these characters, you will still be able to learn 5 poems from traveling bards in the taverns.

9) Villages, once they change hands you will be able to recruit units from their new faction rather than the faction that they used to be apart of, so if Dragonstone takes Antlers and it's village instead of recruiting Westerlands levies from the village you would be able to recruit Dragonstone levies. This will apply for all factions and every time village changes hands.
there will be unique epic quests that you will be able to perform but I am not releasing that information at the moment

10) Small Councils, Kings or leaders of each faction will be able to hand out small council titles to their vassals to obtain additional relations with them, While Kings Landings Small Council is already decided, Tywin will be able to have his own, also, certain small council position will already be filled for instance New Titles will need to be created for the Free Cities and the Iron Isles which has Victarian Greyjoy as Captain of the Fleet, the First Sword of Braavos being Qarro Volentine, and Davos as Stannis' Hand of the King. Credit goes to Reus for this and the next two ideas.

11) Kingsguard: other than Ser Jaime Lannister who is off leading an army for his father at the beginning of the war there will be 6 hero companion units that will not be removable from Kings Landing, They will bear the name of the Existing Kingsguard members at the beginning of the War and will fight for whoever takes the City (if it is taken). If you care for these units, (meaning you've taken Kings Landing and you own it) you will only be able to upgrade these hero's and their skills when you have control of them (meaning instead of an arming sword you can only upgrade it to Balanced->Tempered->or Masterwork, and will only be allowed to remove that weapon if you are upgrading it with something better), you will not be able to take their armor or weapons from them if you think they would be better suited on one of your actual companions.

12) Companions, here is a list and where they can scout for you:
Bronn, Fairmarket
John Ryder, The Rills
Rolland Storm, Nightsong
Aurane Waters, Driftmark
Daegon Shehperd, Lordsport
Samwell Stone, Runestone
Harry Rivers, Stone Hedge
Obara Sand, Planky Town
John Wells, Hellholt
Borros Wensington, Storms End
Marwyn Bridges, Highgarden
Qyburn, Oldtown
Gendry, Kings Landing
Creighton Longbough, Lannisport
Rickard Holt, Winterfell
Malakho, Qohor
Qavo Nogarys, Selhorys
Myrmello Lysandys, Pentos
Chains, Tyrosh
Meris, Lorath
Izembaro Mortosh, Norvos
Baqq Beans, Myr,
Anguy, Lys
Ternesio Terys, Braavos

all companions will have a suitable back-story and some will clash based on culture, others will clash because of the wars going on, others may simply just not like the choosen profession of another. You will be able to turn complaints off.

before you ask: NO dragons, Danny maybe in the future

EDIT: Apparently I cannot delete my own thread so if someone could move this one forum up to "The Pioneer's Guide" where I think this actually belongs that would be great, if I did post in the right part disregard this edit, if this thread is in the wrong forum it was a fail on my part, sorry.

Well, we do already have three Game of Thrones mods. One which is amazingly popular, and two others that aren't nearly as popular.

You surely must be dedicated if you really have 28 pages in a document of how you want the mod to be, although it doesn't really sound like you're very aware of how difficult modding can be, especially when making total conversions, completely switching universe, scrapping all the Native models and adding new ones.

I'm not telling you not to do it, but why don't you contact one of the modleaders of one of the three Game of Thrones mods and ask if you can join as a writer? That might be possible, unless you of course want to make your very own one, which it seems like you do.

Either way, good luck with it.

Not to rain on your enthusiasm, but there's a reason all modders are self-taught. Modding is a hobby and it's fun. Teaching someone to mod, due to sheer amount of work, crosses the line into full-time job category. :???:

If you want to mod - you should learn it yourself,  asking questions along the way. There are plenty tutorials for this course of action to work,  and it has the additional benefit of proving (both to others and to yourself) that you do have the necessary drive, ability and force of will.

It would probably help if you listed exactly what your mod would do differently from the already available mods. Be specific, not just "better writing" "more faithful" " many/good scenes" or whatever. And how you plan to achieve these things.

Then folk might want to help you out if they really like your vision for a GoT mod. Right now they've really got no reason to think it will be different/better than the existing ones.

Game of Thrones is lame. We don't another mod for it.

I read the first book and it sucked majorly.

Thank you for your valuable opinion

EDIT: I'm going to amend what I said in my first post, I have come to the realization that some random noob like myself should not go and try to start a mod like this. So I am looking for like minded people who are willing to put their time into the development of this mod, I will step back and take an advisory roll in which maybe through conversations and again, patience, I personally will pick up some stuff about modding. So while I am eager to learn my main priority has shifted to just getting this mod made, personally I'm very good at management and can set target dates and deadlines for stuff once we know what we are doing. Again, if your interested in such an undertaking PM me on the forums here or add me as a friend on Steam to talk in real time so I can answer your questions quickly and possibly come up with solutions to unforeseen problems, you will also need to contact me to know exactly what I envision for this mod. It literally hurts me to post this, especially my pride, as I was very eager to learn how to mod but with my thick skull a lot of this stuff just isn't getting through.

Thank you for your time,

You seem like a nice guy but this is a ridiculous thread, you basically want someone to create a mod for you. And I speak from experience you will not receive much help from people, if you want to create a mod you generally have to create it yourself. Also GoT is something which has strongly been done before, I realize you think yours is different, but to tell the truth it isnt vastly different, cozur could perform a few changes to his mod and it would be very similar.

There is generally little need for much management in mod teams, mainly because they are usually so small. As or targets and deadlines, anyone can set those, plus your admission that you have no modding knowledge suggests that you are not the best person to be specifying deadline dates as you will have no idea how long should be necessary to do certain things.

Trust me your best option at this moment in time is to start of small, rename a few troops, equip them with different armour ect. Then perhaps have a go at retexturing some armors. Then decide whether you prefer the coding or 3d art side of things and help out one of the current existing mods - its the best way to gain experience. I offer all of this as advice not as critisms

Thank you for your opinion, I realize that someone like me, being super green to modding and attempting to make a mod is as ridiculous as you say, and probably very insulting to actual modders. Problem is that the active mods creator has already dismissed most of these ideas and features or just won't do them, and as I mentioned earlier (possibly in one of the posts I deleted), Produno who will be getting internet within the month and does not want to change his version "so drastically" which is understandable since he already has one out, the third mod, and the one you, yourself are listed as being a member of the mod team seems to be inactive (I was really excited for that one as well, do you communicate at all with GoldEagle?). If Game of Thrones is done to death, then I'm hoping the people who have worked on the different mods won't have no problem donating their work to this one (obviously they would be given credit and if they wish they could be on the mod team if they are interested in developing this mod further). While management may not be a great tool for modding it's something I'm very good at and felt, if given people are willing to join the team and someone willing to lead, once we all figure out what is going on, would be a valuable trait in getting things done in a timely manner. I know people like to do things on their own time, but in my personal experience, if I don't have a date to shot for then I don't really care to do anything, this could be different for every other person, but that was where I was coming from by mentioning that, as I still want to be useful to this prospective mod.

Again, thank you for your opinion and advice, I will take it to heart,

Nothing ridiculous or insulting about that. In fact I think at least one major mod was created like that, maybe more - by newbies who had thus proved that they're ready to learn and work for their goal. What is a bit ridiculous is the idea that experienced modders will accept the leadership of someone who hasn't yet demonstrated any skills or ability to get the job done. But similar threads appear, like, once every two or three months on these forums, so nothing new here either.

As I said, I wouldn't lead. True I would be the main source of ideas but I am looking for someone who is well rounded in Modding to take the lead and when he or she has a question they would be able to come to me to solve whatever the problem may be. Also it would benefit to get a different point of view so we can bounce ideas off each-other. Like I said, in hopes of getting this mod made, I will take an advisory role and possibly pick stuff up from the people who choose to be apart of the team if they feel inclined to share their skills. While I would maintain a presence, because a lot of the work so far is my own though it's just research at the moment, I just want this mod made.

Hopefully all of the competition brings out the best in this mod. I have a negative opinion on Game of Thrones but I do support new modders through and through. so good luck.

Azsouth, everyone started as a modder from nothing. You can too. Read through the Native files, like mission templates, dialogs, etc. You will come to understand them more as you read. Use this as your dictionary: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,213060.0.html Whenever you don't know what an operation does, that will help. When you are completely stumped by an error, ask a question here: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,6575.0.html

Learning Warband coding is just reading and trial and error. Learning modeling and texturing is not something I can give advice on, but I will promise you something. People will not make a mod for you. But once your mod is impressive enough, with good new features and showing potential, people will join you, some of whom will be modelers and texturers.

If I may give some suggestions for the mod in general, go as far East as the lore allows. Ie, not Asshai and Ulthos because there is little lore for those places, (just make those the lands you see if you angle the camera just right, like the empty distant lands in Warband) but Ib, Yi Ti, Qarth, and Ghis would be very good inclusions. Maybe even Sothoryos as a place that is able to be traveled to, but FILLED with very dangerous bandits (brindled men) and the ruins of Zamettar and Gogossos likely with a few chests full of gold inside those ruins, and even Naath as a place that gives death to anyone not of the Naathi race who stays overnight.

I might be willing to help you on the Sothoryos and Naath stuff if you can get this mod on it's feet with some beginnings.

Good luck like I said too much mods never kill someone.

In particular if they bring something news.

Thank you for this, I will definitely read this, probably a few times, though I don't know how much of it I will actually retain. As to your suggestion of going farther east and including Sothoryos, I'm not sure how big maps can be but I'm pretty sure if I attempted to make it any bigger (farther east than Qohor and Volantis) that it would crash my computer as well as anyone who attempts to play the game. Also if there is a static map size that would require removing a lot of stuff in Westeros and Essos to fit the farther East factions. While I do like the idea of going East, it would allow for the inclusion of Danny and I think Qarth and the Golden Empire alone could have their own mods, I just don't think that a casual players computer would be able to handle Westeros, Western Essos, and Eastern Essos. I also would like to add in Sothoryos at some point, I believe that, because there is little known about the continent, I could be very creative with it (although would probably break lore) but again, that would require extending the map South and East which if it is a static size would reduce the amount of stuff I can include in Westeros and Western Essos. Thank you for the tutorial, and I will definitely look into expanding East and South, but I can't promise anything.

Thanks again,
-Azsouth

Have you thought about making your mod focused on the East rather than on Westeros? Could help to differentiate it from the existing mods.

Remember to have a good thorough look through the OSP sections
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,229.0.html
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,354.0.html

You mention looking for folk to make models/scenes etc but it would probably be a lot simpler to learn how to implement OSP stuff. Then later learn how to make/alter the original stuff you want yourself (if you haven't had anyone join up).

What we need is more focus on the vassal houses such as Forrester and Florent.

That'd be different.

Maybe more focus on houses in general, and less on kingdoms.

The whole point of the mod is to focus the world of Westeros, the mod itself is going to be titled "The War of the Five Kings". Also, while there is lore for Eastern Essos and Sothoryos I don't think that there is actually enough to build a mod on (opinions may differ and I welcome them). While at the moment this mod may seem like it isn't very different from the active mod, it intends to add some features that are not currently in the active mod as well as adding many more fiefs and lords as well as tweaks to allow for a more dynamic game. Going East is definitely on the table, but it would probably be in a version after the mod itself is off the ground and the main bugs worked out. As for OSP stuff, Reus suggested using the Floris Mod Pack which while containing a lot of OSP stuff also has mods included in it where I would need to ask permission. I expressed hesitation in this because in my naivety I thought I could, or people assisting with the mod, could make everything ourselves, but he assured me that OSP is a good thing and I trust his judgment.

Thanks for the advice,
-Azsouth

Nah I get you, was just a thought. Using something like floris/diplomacy as a base could be a good idea, adds a lot of stuff, plus sometimes players can be frustrated if their favourite feature/mechanic is missing.
