watered steel sword

I have only seen watered steel sabres, never a broadsword or bastard sword. Anyone got their hands on one yet? How rare you think they are?

There's no such thing. Only daggers, scimitars and nomad sabres are available in watered steel.

Sword of war in vanilla, but it's not the best 2-handed weapon, just best 2-handed sword.

You can mod the game slightly and make watered steel available for more weapons. In my minor mod I added balanced bows, and gave every unit better choices for arrows, armor (gloves, etc). When I ran into sea raiders with balance longbows and bodkin arrows I could feel the difference.

and when i modded the peasants to have 40 str and 23 agility and 7 athletics AND 8 ironskin, power strike and gave them balanced swords of war and reinforced black armor helmet and reinforced gauntlets AND reinforced black greaves i could feel the difference

after getting shot in the back of the head by borcha at level 1, I stood behind him at every level after that and beat his head in and he felt the difference

I think that the idea was that Damascus steel was not made in a part of the world that made big straight swords. But it is a fantasy game so who knows what we could get. Personally I don't see a need for watered steel bastard swords.

Eureka!  STEELED- WATER!  I'm going to go make some right now...

(three hours later)

It didn't work how I expected it to...and now I don't have a house.

Damascus steel is used to describe wootz steel and pattern welding, the latter being incorrect but common anyways. Pattern welding was definately present in some Roman swords, IIRC. Wootz steel would have been used in and around India. So it would make sense to see Middle Eastern blades made with wootz.

Truly you are a master smith.
What are the actual benefits of Damascus steel?

What are the actual benefits of Damascus steel?

A homogenous, high carbon steel. All the hammering and folding that smiths used to do was partly to remove impurities. Damascus steel was made in a crucible. It is also speculated that it might have contained cobalt and vandium, which are used in a number of modern steel alloys for better wear resistance and edge holding ability, etc.

Poke around there for general information about the stuff. As with so many things from long ago, it can be hard to seperate fact from fiction on the subject. My brother has an intense interest in early Irish history. I'll sometimes probe him for information and get fifteen different answers to one question, with a "no one really knows" at the end.

After always chasing down Marnid on a Saddle Horse and killing him, the Black Hunters now encountered a Heavy Charger-riding Watered-steel wielding berserkr at lvl 24. Needless to say, he took three before he fell.

Only three?

I know the secret but you won't like it.

Get someone with a high iron diet to pee in your water bottle.

Damasces steel is also really really pretty, in my opinion. And I am of noble birth so technically god would agree with me before he would you. Which makes me kind of like jesus, except I'm so dangerous that even my beard has a beard. Inside these beards I carry throwing knives, and a battle axe, so watch out.

your just a mere peasent who wishes to be sold as a slave for 20 denars but no one would buy him for more than 3 denars

I'm afraid that is just an urban legend.  The means of creating steeled water are much similar to the distilling of Trident Splash.  One must extract the delicious Iron interior of the Iron Sap Trees of northern Iowa.  The sap must then be stirred in an ancient vat(preferably circa June 17, 216 BC).  The vat should then be filled with a lightly frothed cola and a hint of iocane powder.  The rustic combination of these two elements will cause a reaction such that it will heat the inside of the vat to a pugnacious degree, and remove all elements but the hydrogen, iron, and oxygen.  The reaction causes them to fuse together in much the same way that the Sun creates Helium out of hydrogen.  The new molecule created can be described as 2HFeO2.  It will be roughly similar to quicksilver in its texture and must be instantly submersed in Lactic Acid and kept there for three days.  On the third day one should begin shaping it into the desired configuration.  In two days it will harden and become the ultimate weapon!  Regardless of whether or not you formed it into a weapon!  Steeled Water frying pans have been known to crack the skulls of the largest of babies!

Probably a balanced Sword of War...

I don't know what price it would be, but it would be a lot.  Not nearly as expensive as armor, but a lot.
