Water, Sand, Er... Sky?

What should the WoS world look like? (Read first post before answering.)

This is a poll thread for World of Steam mod.

The current question asks YOU what the 'World' should look like. More specifically, what should be in place of oceans?

Look at the last few pages in the World of Steam thread to see the discussion that's been going on about this topic. This is merely to know peoples' opinions. And please, voice your thoughts here! If you've got your own ideas, do post them.

Option 1-
The idea is that of instead of oceans, bodies of water have all dried up into sand. There may still be seas in places far away, but not in the area in which this mod takes place. It is quick sand that cannot be traversed by foot. It might also be possible to have an underground world of sea and deep, dark, wet caves where the Atlantians live. Voice your thoughts

Option 2-
Oceans, seas, water. Atlantians could be in this one if a three-leveled map works. If it doesn't, we can't have Atlantians or Hawks (sky pirates).

Option 3-
A world above the clouds. Possibly called Asgard? And the world below the clouds could be called Midgard. Midgard could not be visited, though. No on the Atlantians in this case, it's your choice.

Option 4-
A three leveled map, with Asgard, Midgard, and an udersea/underground-sea level. May or may not be possible. In this case we could have Atlantians, sky pirates, and some ground factions.

Go ahead and vote! This is not for any official ideas, just to see...







 
Barren Sands, Normal Ocean, and Just Sky is cool and everything but all of them put together would be even cooler.  :cool:
 
If they were all together, would you want on the land/sea and ocean floor levels something like Option 1-, or something like Option 2-?
 
Hmmmm well sorry but I don't get what your trying to get to (my mind is really weird right now getting brain farts) If you look on one of the pictures for the world of steam mod on page 1 you can see some air ships bombing a city below it. So I think it would be awesome to have just regular ol land and sky if somehow that can be done. If I don't make sense then I am truly sorry, again I keep getting brain farts.
 
Well personally i was really hoping to meet captian nemo if that helps any lol

I think having them all would be cool , but would require alot of work

Probably regular ocean-floor/ocean would be best. With Sky, and land, too. That's what most people want so far, not just here but some on the other thread, too. Just didn't wanna skip over any ideas that might be best for the mod.  :grin:

Could you explain more how the map in multiple landscapes would work? The player would go to a spot in the map and be transferred to another level r something like that?
 
Honestly it would seem to make more sense if it were in the sky since your going to have airships so have some flying sky forts and sky cities but thats my opinion

Yes, sky cities and sky forts is a good idea.
 
I voted for sea. It's just that...I had this pure picture of a...slightly cleaner steampunk world.

Plus I was looking forward to meeting Captain Nemo, who just wouldn't fit if it was a sea of sand.

But, then again, I'm just the writer, and so I have no right forcing my opinions onto you. Do what you want to do and get me to write about it. ^_^
 
I doubt the three level (sea ground air) would work,  but if it can then it would be epic

going for just one-  then air, saying that the ground level has become a gaint flowing sea of sand and is uninhabitable. to spice up the landscape there needs to be lots of mountain ranges with paths riddled in them-  a few cities on mountainsides,  giant floating cities,  huge imobile battleships that act as forts. im not sure how villages would work though,  some could be on mountainsides, but I cant see floating villages working too well,  unless they are made to look like extentions of the cities,  perhapse made very close to them with visible pipes/ropes/walkways  connecting them.
 
I think the 3-Tier system would be cool, but is much too ambitious, especially considering no start has been made on this modification short of IYIORT's awesome content as far as I know.

Just throwing a suggestion out there of how it could be done, a really big map, split into multiple sections and separated. Then adding an option at Towns as to whether or not you want to 'Take Off' (Teleports you 'Above' the city, which is actually just a relative position on a part of the map that looks like air. Or something to that effect, that's how RTS map-makers usually do different 'realms'.

However, since I think this would be a huge amount of work, that likely would be abandoned. Keep it simple, and do deserts. Deserts are more fun anyways. A good start would be replacing forests with ruins, maybe.
 
I think sea is a good idea. I'll try and make a three tier system in the next few days and show it to you guys...
 
Right read this post too, as i said in the other one, backstories and nation descriptions are currently being made.
I want the three plane idea, land/sea/air very much, but if it cant work, then just the sky would do nicely. The ground will be all horrible and ruined, like the terrain in red faction, with all the beauty up in the sky, in the sky cities and forts. anyhoo, you will get more descriptions and explanations when they are posted up on the other thread.
