Should most definally join Swadia.
Sticking to one faction robs the game of much of its fun. Try them all. Pick one at random, then do a different one the next time around.

I'm gonna have to disagree. I think it is fun to focus on one kingdom. You learn the land and get to know the lords. I have tried every type of character at least once and every kingdom, but i play my serious character as a Vaegir lord.
Vaegirs are the best because they don't have a weakness.

I don't mean play each kingdom in the same game, or even at once with different characters. You can learn everything to know about a kingdom in a game week anyway.
Vaegir Knights are decent. Not as heavy as the Swadians, but they'll still crush most infantry they can charge through. Plus, what faction you join doesn't really dictate anything but location. You can play as a Nord, and have a Swadian based heavy cavalry army.

Depends what you like. Swadia for their unstoppable-except-in-sieges kniggits, Nords for their superior infantry, Vaegirs for their elite archers, Rhodoks for fast-to-get crossbowmen(2. tier AFAIK) and Khergits for their horse archers and for not having to face them in a battle. Khergits are a ***** to fight against.
I like to join the Nords because Vikings are awesome and Huscarls destroy mostly everything in their path.

I have tried Swadia once or twice but it was boring, same for Rhodoks. For some reason I haven't played even once with Khergits even though I'm mongol fan... Andkiller-blead said:

Khergits are tough to fight against, but they suck when you yourself use them, mostly because you cant make them ride on the enemy's right side and circle them like they normally do unless you make them follow you, but then half of them die cause they aren't straight enough in line, and get killed by infantry.
Vaegirs are very balanced, but its good to replace their calvary and infantry with Swadian knights, and huscarls.
I only use Khergits for distractions, or I get some of their veteran horse archers, and dismount them.
The horse archers are actually better than the vaegir archers on foot.
