I have to say though, I am amused by your conjecture that if "democratically elected people" would win elections, they'd be killed by the existing power base. I say it's amusing because the last time a democratic, peaceful protester was killed, it started a revolution. Where was that again? Oh right, Libya. I doubt after seeing their brothers and fathers, their mothers and daughters die as they fought for what they hope would be a better country, they'd just lay back and accept a new, equally brutal regime. Especially considering many of them are now armed (and reluctant to hand over their weapons) and have some experience in nasty interurban combat.
Moving past that ridiculous jump, what evidence do you have that a group of ordinary Libyans, i.e. doctors, socialists, businessman, investors, etc, would suddenly want to establish a new autocratic rule? It makes no bloody sense. If you look at the situation, there's no reason they would.
