Was building new castles not a thing?

I seem to remember this being a thing. Was it removed or is it in the game?

EDIT: I meant to post this in the Keep subforum.

It was announced to be removed years ago, some Q&A of a gamescom. Probably because of balance issues.

They removed it bro. They tought it's OP or there wouldn't be a need for getting castles which is still the same. There is no special recruitment from castles or they are not focused by armies etc. etc. People wouldn't leave castles behind them because thats another army behind you. This should be a thing. This would make attacking cities a bigger thing. Like a big build-up to the final push.

Empire Lords should be at least able to build Camps
A camp is just a normal thing lol Everyone does it. It's a place to chill when people can't march anymore. Roman camps were like semi-forts that's all duderino

Can we still build castles in villages we own?
We had to drop that feature. At some point in development, fief management became too complex, with towns, castles and villages each having their own specific management screens. The ability to build castles in villages also gave rise to complex rules. For example, demolishing the castle in a village could potentially revert the village to another kingdom and we had to add complex logic to handle that. Overall, we felt that the design had become too bloated and unappealing.
The solution was changing the status of villages so that they would no longer be considered independent fiefs but were always attached to a castle or town. This removed the necessity to have a management screen for villages and simplified and streamlined the system. The aesthetics of our new villages is also much more pleasing.

I hate it. I would love if you could build up your fief to whatever you want it to be. I wish it was that way.

That would take them another 4 years of dev time - lol
Better waiting on mods for that one.

I thought there was one last year, that stated we were able to manage villages. At the very least I think we should have similar upgrades to what we had in Warband

Building your own castle from scratch would be amazing, however I can certainly see how that could upset the balance. I think it would be ok to implement later down the road when teh game has more features and is more balanced.

If they brought it back or decided to implement it anew, I would expect it would be VERY expensive to build, you would have to have MANY workers/people/troops involved to build it, and it would take an EXTREMELY long time. If you were able to somehow build a castle unscathed after that duration, you've earned it! Such constraints would prevent the player from jsut building 20 castles across the map and starting their own kingdom too quickly.

I thought it was that villages could turn into castles, then into towns, but they scrapped it. I did not recall creating castles and villages being a thing.

I recall the same as you. You could upgrade existing villages into castles with different tier of walls that changed visually aswell, there was never an option to create a village out of nowhere.

Sorry for the necro, but this is sure to be of interest to you all.

Some time ago in this devblog we were informed by Taleworlds about the scrapping of this design feature:

Also, our dear mexxico expanded information before leaving here.

The point is, once again drawing on daring and nostalgia and more importantly a lot of passion; @Bloc has recently created this completely functional design but with room enough margin for improvement due to its still WIP nature.

Enjoy:

A simple demonstration of Village Management in Bannerlord. A little bit of information:

- Now you can "micro" manage the villages that you own with new UI. You can increase or decrease tax values, militia production, and project workforce.

- Each village has East, West, North, South sides which you can construct projects. I tried not to change village production on purpose because several complex factors are tied to that in the game at the moment. Some projects still output some basic products though - like grain and fish.

- You can construct a castle - which also will be visible on the campaign map and when you enter the scenes. It increases the security of the village, makes it harder to get raided, and increases militia power. Each castle icon and real model ( which you see in scenes ) are culture-sensitive, so empire village will see empire castle.

- AI lords also do the exact same projects for their villages. This depends on their gold and some parameters and random values. They, however, only built castles for villages that are raided too often to increase security.

- You can demolish projects for a cost if they are previously built by AI or if you changed your mind.

It's obviously WIP and not exactly a finished mod. But you get the idea. For UI, I tried to replicate the original idea they had 7 years ago but later dropped because "At some point in development, fief management became too complex" - here is the original video https://youtu.be/H-wYZvApOmE?t=55

Just what every village needs .. a HUGE Tower sitting in a field .. looks so natural .. (: /

What's needed is the ability to construct a Watch Tower, located on the Kingdoms borders. We NEED to see when a enemy army is moving against us. Watch towers could also hold a few soldiers for defense / patrols ??

Amazing the guy spends his free time making something that adds more depth to the game, something that you aren't obligated to use and you ***** about it.

Everyone has the right to oppose an idea, It doesn't mean they are a hater. But progressives like to call all opponents as haters and try to ban their voice. ... modern world problem..

No need to straw man your way so hard out of it, a simple "Yeah my bad, my criticism wasn't very nicely worded. I don't like the looks of it, maybe instead of a miniature castle it could look like a large watch tower?"

But yeah I'm not your mom, you're free to say whatever you wanna
