2 suggestions to solve two different, but related, issues.
#1: Upgrading some units requires just any generic horse, while others require Warhorses. However, the game currently does not discriminate when upgrading troops that just require horses. Meaning, it very well may use a warhorse to upgrade a troop that requires only a horse, even when horses are available.
It should either strictly require just a horse, or at least prioritize horses before warhorses where allowed.
#2: Currently, there is no way to lock a specific horse from being used. Items can be locked to prevent them from being sold, but they can not be locked to prevent a troop upgrade from using a specific horse that maybe you were trying to save for yourself or a companion once they leveled up their horse skill.
There should be a way to lock a specific horse, or horse type, so that they are not used arbitrarily by troop upgrades.
