Basically, a warhorse / charger is a Hunter with armor on, this is IMO stupid since:
A hunter doesn't seem to be a horse which can carry a fully armored guy + Armour plating.

I think there must be a breed of large, muscled horses which where specially breed for wearing armor + plate armor rider.

Added some polls.

EDIT: How about this: The more weight the rider has, the better horse he needs, I don't think a Courser could carry a fully plated knight. This would encourage people on light horses wearing light armor

Also, I think they should add more lightly armored horse types.

Might be nice.

Would be a cure to the problem of everyone taking the fastest horses though this is less of a problem than it was.
I think Warband might be a bit late in development though for something like this.

I always did think of hunters as quite tough though.

But hunters probably wouldn't be able to carry that much weight.

You may be correct here, but if you notice that ALL of the horses are of basically the same breed(model). Dont expect a change within 6 days. I am sure a modification after release can correct this. What you are proposing is a pretty big change, since the devs actually used motion capture to properly animate these horses. They cant be running around looking for other breeds to stick their equipment onto, heh.

Also, what may be more of a factor is the equipment worn by the rider himself. As well the horse armour could be portrayed differently, with barding on the front, and rear. Instead of over their entire body like we have now. Horsemen would want to face their enemies(or be facing full away, as in retreat) with or without armour to minimize the target they offer their foes. This includes horse archers.

Something to motivate the heavily armoured great-lance type to use heavy horses would be good, but I'm not sure outright restricting their choice is the way to go.

Maybe a movement penalty for different types of horses...
So above a certain weight saddle horses and coursers slow down, above a higher weight hunters slow down, and then warhorses and chargers have no limit.

seems frivolous to me.

And to be honest, chain mail isn't that heavy. Even willowy horses can carry two people, and hunters are anything but willowy

The hunter and charger could be scaled a little at least.  There is a new module system function to increase or decrease the size of horses.  Hell you could even shrink the mongolian breed steppe horse a little.  IRL they had some pretty small horses.

I'm not talking about two normal people but a fully armoured plate knight and if not, at least change the breed for the warhorse

Wikipedia time! To the Wikilair!
Perhaps one reason for the pervasive belief that the medieval war horse had to be of draught horse type is the assumption, still held by many, that medieval armour was heavy. In fact, even the heaviest tournament armour (for knights) weighed little more than 90 pounds (41 kg), and field (war) armour 40 to 70 pounds (18 to 32 kg); barding, or horse armour, more common in tournaments than war, rarely weighed more than 70 pounds (32 kg).[51] For horses, Cuir bouilli (a type of hardened leather), and padded caparisons would have been more common,[52] and probably as effective.[53] Allowing for the weight of the rider and other equipment, horses can carry approximately 30% of their weight; thus such loads could certainly be carried by a heavy riding horse in the 1,200 to 1,300 pounds (540 to 590 kg) range, and a draught horse was not needed.[54]
I have thought this a while...  your horse should be customizable just like a player.  You should be able to pick a horse, then purchase barding that affects its speed/stats accordingly.  I think this would fix the issue here as well as allow players more customization options.

A fully armoured knight weighs a heck of a lot less than two adults. Even adding mail barding doesn't quite bring it up to the same weight.

Yeah I like to see warhorses and chargers from Percheron breed. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percheron)
So i made new horses, but it was rejected because it wasnt fitting to the M&B setting.Anyway If all goes well Armagan has allowed me to release them unofficialy; I have to say they need a little finalization and tweaking (texture wise and rig wise). But I will probably  release it after the official game launches.

Damn, I love em! They definitely look like a real warhorse.
Though second one is a little bit too plated in my opinion.

Read the wiki article.  The bloody french eat percherons!
Today, the breed is still used extensively for draft work, and in France they are used for food.

I bet the damn tourists think it is some kind of really red-meaty fish.
