Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - It's official

Agent Griff:
Balance, balance, balance. All anti-tank (Tankbustas, which are pretty ****ty all around by the way, and looted tanks) Ork army cannot win against a Space Marine army that consists of eight Dreadnoughts, last time I played. To contrast, in Firestorm over Kronus, a mod for Dawn of War 1, Tankbustas are definitely one of the best demolition units in the game, if they are fully manned. With the lack of buildings, Relic seems to think it's a good idea just to make them nigh useless; oh, and forget about busta bombs, they're totally lame.
Single player is boring and repetitive, and easy.
Fewer units, less variety.
Much more micromanagement, to the point at which it becomes tedious. Orks seem to be the crowned kings of micromanagement, with a separate "WAAAGH" ability for each and every Ork unit that must be singularly activated. Don't even get me started with Kommandos. Do you remember the part in the tabletop where you had to check and make sure every squad had their stupid ability powered up? I don't, and it's not there for a damned good reason.
Lower scale and escalation. An entire tier of units from Dawn of War 1 was completely wiped just so that the game could be shrunk in size to make room for tons of micromanagement. I can't even begin to comprehend why anyone would take this completely off-track design route. Six Orks does not a mob make, and it makes me feel like I shouldn't even bother.
Complete lack of lieutenant units; no more mad Doks, and forget about having BOTH a Warboss and a Big Mek, or having a Force Commander and a Librarian.
Overall, there's just this incredibly exasperating feel of restriction, like Relic is actually trying to prevent you from having fun with the whole 40k universe as you know it. If you know anything about 40k at all or even Fantasy battles, you would know that there's something wrong when three dudes in tin cans make a squad.

It's actually a different game, by THQ Australia. I found out I lived in the same city block their office was in! I have to say though, this looks much better (art wise) than the current title.

Also, the ultimate 40K game for me would be ArmA 2 40K with proper melee and some tweaks here and there. It'd be easier to just play as a Space Marine in an FPS rather than a guard, cause the developers wouldn't even have to think about balance.

And playing as a superhuman killing machine decked out in massive battle armour also makes it easier for the unwashed masses who consider a good time to be runingn around doing jump headshots while taking ridiculous damage.

... No.

In most games the player has and needs to have an edge over common enemies. The Space Marine has this edge, and the player can identify himself more with a genetically modified human than an alien. It'd be the logical choice for a developer, because they wouldn't need to stray far from the fluff to make it playable. Making the Space Marine the player's character in the main campaign does not neccessarily mean it will become a mainstream game, but I'm not saying it won't be original.

I sure as hell wouldn't like it. I'd like to be able to play as an Ork Nob or Warboss.

Just imagine playing a Warboss starting out, eradicating other Ork tribes until you build up enough power to actually challenge the Imperium. Then come struggles with other warbosses, choices of what limbs to replace with cybork weapons (for example a claw instead of a hand and a nice metal gob), what Boyz to incorporate in your mob, how to go about fighting, what clan to affiliate with (and the choice of clan should offer bonuses, for example if you're a Goth you and yours receive extra ability in good ole' melee) and so on.

I think it'd be cool.

It'd be even cooler if there would be a parallel game in which you played a Space Marine in much the same way, advancing through the ranks until you became Force Commander or even Chapter Master.

Hell, my dream game would be one where you played the Hive Mind and commanded the Tyranid swarms.

Yeah, playing as an immortal zombie robot has some glamour to it, I must admit.

And it would be sure as hell epic to stride effortlessly through volleys of lasgun fire with your fellow deathless brothers, while watching the hapless Imperial Guardsmen slowly piss their pants at the sight that none of your brethren are dying.

And then of course the looks on their eyes when a Necron does die but is then resurrected.

I would prefer to fight my way through the ranks and become a Chaos Lord, and eventually perhaps a Daemon Prince.

Ideally, the best game would incorporate an awesome arch of progression for every faction, including what Griff suggested for the Orks.

I like Khourne beserkers, they would be fun to play for sure.

You know what, if I was playing as the guard, I'd want to be that guy loading the mobile autocannon. So I could be ****ing deaf.

You're talking about DoW2? Or this?

The Flashpoint mod doesn't really satisfy anybody, by the way.

I was talking about the scrapped "symphony of death" "cinemaction" Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Apparently they developed that game from their office in Brisbane. If I'd known I would've tried to get a look.

In the name of the God Emperor, we will descend upon the foe, purge them with holy fire, and in his glorious name, we will cleanse the unclean.

Let the gods shower us with praise and the honour to rid the universe and let the gods themselves rip through time and reality itself... or something like that im a bit rusty with the Warhammer 40k universe
