Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine - It's official

DoW: FOK with a few modifications really.

Either that or a large scale FPS where you just play an IG Footman amidst 10's of thousands. You'll be zigzagging across the map, dodging basilisk fire (cause they don't care if they kill the fodder), while running for the nearest bit of cover to save yourself from the bolter, las, shuriken, gauss, or whatever else have you projectile coming your way. Basically, a large-scale WWI shooter with futuristic weapons and much stronger enemies. I also imagine it as a really gritty "stab that ork boy in the face, then shoot him with your lasgun, only to end up getting sliced in half by his choppa because da orkz iz da biggest and da strongest, and one must not stab them in the face and expect to live, unless you have termi/artificer armor."

Also, my interpretation of what is "warhammer 40k" aside from the source material obviously, is, as you can probably surmise from above, large scale, Total War-esque or larger, battles, and lots of them. WH40k does not include peacetime. In the future, there is only war and cookies. Warp-spawned cookies.

But would such an FPS be viable if, for all your efforts, you could barely glaze the skin of an Ork? I mean, wouldn't it be frustrating if all of your weapons could barely make a dent in that thing's hide while it could kill you with its bare hands?

Sure, it'd be fun at first. But then it would get really abysmal seeing as your only tactic would be "huddle and wait for the artillery to take them out or for the tanks to roll in".

Maybe if you were playing a Kasrkin trooper it would be better. Their hellguns can dent Ork hide, right?

Orks really aren't that strong, they rely on numbers more than the Guards do. I imagine the problem would be killing enough of them at range before they reach your lines and melee begins.

An fps as a guardsman probably wouldn't work, as the main point of guardsmen is that they're there to be spent like bullets. A stormtrooper on the other hand, with their all-new 2/9-chance-to-kill-a-space-marine rapid-fire guns of death...

I bought this awesome set of dice once.

*Rolls a one*
*Rolls a one*

*Friend enters*
"Hey, cool dice!" *Rolls a 6*

An FPS as Russians in WWII probably wouldn't work, as the main point of conscripts is that they're to be spent like bullets.

Can exchange their hellguns for hotshot lasguns wth the same stats as a regular lasgun except range 18" and AP3.

And is the player spent like a bullet?

I was under the impression that stormtroopers are veterans of a lot of wars, thus their experience. I might be mistaken.

The point is, there's always that handful of lucky guardsmen that survive the onslaught. You could be playing one of them.

Are all guards spent like a bullet? In that case, there wouldn't be stormtroopers would there?

Some bullets goes through the first ceramic covered superhuman and ricochets off the back of the skull of the one behind them, then bouncing off an exposed fuel chamber on a predator disabling it, before finally landing back into the hand of the person who fired it with a full charge somehow.

Now that I'm actually awake, I think you might be right.

Yes, but you would have to make the game really, really hard and really unpredictable.

Or you could maybe make the game start in 1943 when the Soviets got their **** together. <.<

CoD 1's Stalingrad did it okay, lots and lots of conscripts, lots and lots of dying.
