For about two months, work on a mod taking place in the Holy Roman Empire in the year 1426, have been in progress.
Still some work remaing before the mod would be playable, but work is progressing fast, especially since several great contributors have decided to join the team.

The mod, when finished, will feature a very large number of historical lords, ladies, cities and noble houses from medieval Germany.
The ambitions are set pretty high, and the aim is set towards at least 50-60 factions (most of them very small).
Examples would include the different noble houses of Germany; The Houses of Wittelsbach, Württemberg, Askanier, Habsburg etc, a very large number of Imperial Free Cities (Rottweil, Hamburg, Gmünd, Regensburg, Mainz etc), a large number of bishoprics like Münster, Utrecht, Köln, Magdeburg etc, and some other major players like Burgundy, the Hussites and Denmark.
There is also a load of different counties, duchies, landgraviates etc not mentioned here.
For later versions I have a load of ideas for other features (economy, RPG-elements etc), but the current aim is to create a playable (war-focused) alpha first.
A small amount of early firearms will be included as well, and cannons (hopefully) for sieges.

The reason for choosing the Holy Roman Empire in this particular time and age, is that it was a period of much infighting, treachery and backstabbing... not to mention the Hussite Wars taking place during these years. (with a number of crusades being called upon them) - a great setting for M&B, especially with the new Warband features.

I could use some help, if anyone else finds this mod concept interesting (and is willing to put in at least some work).
I know my way around texturing, and I'm getting better at the module system every day, but help is welcome in any area - this mod is a huge undertaking.
Right now, I'm mapping, texturing, scripting & implementing stuff - if someone would help me out  with one of these areas, the work on the mod would progress a lot faster.
Writers (dialogue & descriptions - I can give directions) and modelers/texturers would be especially welcome.
Also; Scene makers! - Towns, mostly, but also castles and to a lesser extent, villages.

Thanks everyone for kind words and encouragement!

I updated the first post with a screenshot, and some progress updates.

You can start modding with Morgh's Mod Tools, you can find that in The Forge.
Those (great and handy) tools is actually what got me started, but I'm trying to rely as much as possible on the module system right now.
I'll use them later on, for sure... they are especially handy for troop and equipment editing.

Edit: Didn't know that Morgh's tools had been updated so many times (since I last downloaded it), took a peek in the thread and found a bunch of new features,  thanks a lot for the tip.

It will certainly be interesting. We have in mind it was a Great Empire, but the real thing is that it was a bag full of Principalities.

I knew that the HRE was a mess before I started working on this mod, but after diving into research, I discovered that the Reich was far worse off than I ever could have imagined

Thanks a lot for the tip! I'll take a look at the Wedding Dance, and see if a little borrowing would be allowed.

Btw, it's "Das Heilige Römische Reich"

Well, it's not 'Römischen' as I wrote first, but I actually think it is 'Römisches', and not 'Römische' ...
Not sure though, I should have been more alert during my german classes

Ah

Alrighty, it will be changed then, no further arguing.

I will gladly send an alpha version over to you in the near future, there are probably plenty of bad german grammar to be fixed

Tyrinius said:
Sure, I'd be glad to help! If you send me the source files, too, I can correct any mistakes in the python files if you want.

I'm not quite at that stage yet, right now I have most of the text stuff on ordinary paper, waiting to get implemented.
I'm pretty certain I'll get the grammar wrong though, so as soon as I get something alphaish ready, I'll let you know

40-30 factions? Aw hellz yes! If you manage thet then i'll deffinetly play this.

There will probably be around 15-20 native-sized factions (the different Houses, the Archbishoprics, some league of cities etc), and quite a few very small factions (bishoprics, free imperial cities, rogue barons etc).
I hope you'll play it, I know I will

Leave it like that, it's okay. Or better, flood it

All Dutch - just kidding

Great Idea, anyway! I'll definitly give it a try.

Judging by your nickname, I had thought you were German. Does the word "Kohlrabi" exist in other languages, as well?

It will be the edge of the world (as far as the mod is concerned anyhow), but I have some plans for it -
two rival bishops fighting over the bishopric of Utrecht, and probably some english & flemish mercenaries.

Its actually called 'Kålrabbi' in swedish, but I grabbed the nickname after a little episode in eastern Germany

Edit: corrected creative use of the english language
