I have bought 3 copies of warband so I could LAN them at home.

2 are boxed Steam verions and 1 is downloaded from taleworlds.

All have been activated over the internet.

when I try to host a Lan game, everyone can see my game, but when they try to join they get the
"unable to connect to server" error.

I am getting really fed up as i have spent £65 on this game so I can LAN it and it DOESN'T WORK!!!!

All machines are networked fine and all firewalls are off

I have changed the use secure connections from 1 to 0 (made no difference)

although the games have all been activated there was no internet connection when Lan game was started. Could this be the reason it doesn't work?

Please Help as I really want to have a go at playing my mates at this.

Thanks

I see the same message when I try internet server, and Lan server. People from my community tried to connect through

Lan connection because I was unable to connect to any server. It did not work. I saw the same message, and other members saw the message "incorrect serial number" or something. "invalid serial key"? well.. I'm not sure.

I love M&B, but warband simply has TOO MANY BUGS. I hope tales world  fix this fast. quickly. now. Right now.

Could be. AFAIK it still tries to call the master server when you host via LAN to verify the key. The other issue of course would be that this would result in Steam running in offline mode presumably, which could cause problems when you try to connect to the network.

Try opening the net connection and hosting to see if it changes. If not, try hosting the game on one of the Steam versions and connecting with the other Steam version.

I have tried hosting on steam version and retail version.
No difference, just get "Unable to connect to server".
I really don't want to have to connect to the internet as my gaming machines have no antivirus or anything.
I just can't believe I have to constantly verify serial when they have all been activated. Its getting like EA.
I LOVE Mount and Blade and was looking forward to warband so much (I even booked a week off work from release date) but this problem has ruined it for me.
I Hope they get this sorted QUICK!!

PS thanks for replying

This machine has **** all other than malwarebytes (Which doesn't protect, it only removes them when you manually scan).

I've had **** all viruses since I bought it.

Also, like EA? Bull****. It tries to connect to the internet when you want to use multiplayer. OH MY GOD WOW

Yeah it tries to connect to the internet when you play LAN - JUST LIKE EA
Lan is supposed to be LOCAL!!! so having to connect to the internet sort of defeats the object.

I usualy do LAN parties with my friend only during winter, but exceptionaly for warband release i organised one in april....
we where 4 people all buying warband, having diferent valid key codes, and we had the same message: "unable to connect to server"
no need to say how disapointed we where...

if you must be conected to internet to play in local, this is stupid because me i use my cable plug for internet OR for lan, so when in LAN i cant have internet.
If it is just a bug... well, i understand that it can happen, but why the hell there is absolutely no information about it from taleworldes?

let me be clear: it is a great game and i realy like it, not only because it is a nice game but also because you can try it for free befor buying it, without having to give your e-mail or suscribing to any newsleter or installing a stupid toolbar. I can feell behind this a nice spirit from the developers, and despite there lack in comunication i hope they will make good money with this game... but i also hope this money will not make them loose this former nice spirit.

anyone have some news? when will it be fixed? are some of you in contact with developers?

It verifies your key once when you join multiplayer.  Not like EA. Also, they're a very small company, they can't afford the sales loss to piracy. You also missed the part where Arch said AFAIK. He's not affiliated with TW, he's just another player with a shiny hammer and a flag. As far as he knows. Much as he hates to admit it, Arch isn't completely infallible. May well be right, but you're *****ing is over the top for the issue.

Stop being so paranoid about viruses and hook it up to the internet. Funnily enough, you have to actually visit a virused page or download a dodgy file to get a virus, no matter what McAfee etc would like you to think.

Is it a real news? did you get it from the developers? Could you join a LAN this way?
cause as i wrote i use the internet plug to play LAN, so it would be a real problem for me.
I understand it is not the case for everyone, but if it is a real information it would have been smart to see a warning somewhere,
something like: require a valid internet connection to play in LAN

and about the loss due to piracy this kind of stupid protection is useless, Pirates find cracks quickly and only honest players have problem because of those protections.
Warband is a nice game for not a big price, this is the best protection ever. I think even pirates are buying cheep games.

Hmm, wierd, my friends and I used hamachi and it all worked out, woot! 12 player lan party. Oh and also I dont think you need a seperate key for lan, when computers are hooked up to a network hub via ethernet cable.

what is hamachi? an unofficial patch, isn t it?

No, it's an easy-to-use program that allows you to set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) that other people can connect to over LAN or internet.  It can be used to host a network for anything pretty much.

did someone try to make a LAN with the new warband 1.113? is there still the same problem?

Yes, I have two valid cd keys and one computer in my basement where there is no internet and I get always unable to connect, the other pc can't enter in the game, I've tried in every way. Last try, I'll move the computer in my home, connect to internet and join in a random server, then uninstall, put again the computer on his place and see if works on LAN... what a trouble
all other games, old or news works fine, even of EA. I have a different perception of LAN games, not an entire night passed at seeking solutions... if a internet connection is obligatory/required for validate the key and do manual activation and insert the serial and buy two copies of the game (and uninstall and reinstall warband, and seeking solutions in the forum) is not enough
write that somewhere, in the faq in the warband section maybe, just write it, because this can be very annoying for someone, maybe even for people who are tinking to stopping using internet. I love mount & blade and I don't want to complain but that thing was *really* annoying.
